Here at The Women’s Safe House we have seen the highs and lows of the season. The generosity with which people have given gifts, time, and support has been inspiring. But of course, the holidays are also a time of added stress. While the month of December does not typically bring increased rates of reported domestic abuse, studies have shown that the intensity of violence at home may worsen due to financial strain, family stress, and other holiday-related factors. We know that our crisis hotline will light up with activity once January arrives, and with it the resolve to enter a new year free from violence. Here at The Women’s Safe House, we know that abuse does not take a vacation, but neither do our advocates and supporters.
