Summer Developments:

Our Homes, Our Sanctuaries

Dear Friends,

We are living in unprecedented times. Our communities, neighbors, friends and family are facing challenges we never could have dreamed possible. We are lifelines of support for each other in so many ways. Strangers supporting strangers is now more important than ever. Times like these call upon us to engage in generous and meaningful acts of kindness to ensure the welfare of our entire community. Yachad's mission is critical to see that homes are sanctuaries for respite. I am honored to share some of the highlights of the work we've done this summer. Thank you to our supporters and partners for helping to make this happen.

With appreciation,

Audrey Lyon

"CBG Gives" Finishes Work at DC Home

Work is complete at Ms. F's home thanks to the amazing commitment by CBG Gives, a program of CBG Construction.

Ms. F. purchased her first home in 2018 with the help of the D.C. Housing Purchase Assistance Program, (HPAP). Shortly after moving into her new home serious roof, plumbing, flooring and electrical problems began. As we shared earlier this spring, Yachad worked with Ms. F. in 2024 providing extensive home remediation measures, but there were still items on the punch-list to be done.

Thanks to CBG Gives, the homeowner has a safe, healthy and wealth-building home to enjoy for years to come. CBG Gives updated the home's electrical system, installed new first floor windows, replaced kitchen cabinets and countertops and painted the living room and kitchen. A huge thank you to CBG Gives and its partners for donating all the labor and materials to make this house a home.

Thank you Roborant Construction Services

Ms. G. purchased her home years ago using the D.C. HPAP program for first time homebuyers. She raised her family in the home and some of those children and grandchildren live with her now. It's a full and lively home.

A leaking upstairs bathroom, that was repaired by the homeowners, caused severe drywall damage and mold to the kitchen ceiling and cabinets below.

The kitchen was practically unusable. Ms. G. heard about Yachad's services from Bridges Across the River, a Yachad partner. An inspection was done and Dave Olfky, of Roborant Construction and his team got to work.

The upstairs bathroom floor was reinforced and new tiling laid, the kitchen ceiling drywall was repaired and cabinets were replaced.

The home is now safe and functional again. Thank you Dave and your team!

A New Partnership with the

DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU)

All D.C. households should have the opportunity for electrical, solar and energy efficiency upgrades. Unfortunately this is not always the case due to costs and access. Yachad is working with D.C. Sustainable Energy Utility, (DCSEU) to see that more lower income households can also achieve greater energy efficiencies.

DCSEU is donating Energy Kits to Yachad for distribution to our homeowners. The Energy Kits include two room air filters and energy-saving power strips. Given the uncertain state of lead pipe abatement in D.C. neighborhoods, Yachad is also providing kitchen faucet water filtration systems to help eliminate lead and other contaminants in cooking and drinking water.

DCSEU helps D.C residents and businesses use less energy and save money. Since 2011, the DCSEU has delivered financial incentives, technical assistance, and information to tens of thousands of District residents and businesses.

Continue to make Yachad's work possible.
