The Community Outreach Center gave a presentation to the Senior group (S.A.G.E.S), at their monthly potluck breakfast on February 4th. We made a short slide presentation. COC volunteers seated at each table, shared what they did at the COC. There were exhibits of donations we need, items we give, and some undesirable items to avoid. We wanted people to know what we do and how they could partner with us. Pam closed the presentation telling stories about various clients we have served over the years, often reporting changed lives in subsequent visits. Her message was that you never know how you touch someone's life. Our job is to show love and let God do the rest.

Lamar Cervantes (left) returned to Greeley, where she grew up. She managed an operation on the western slope similar to the COC. Her involvement in Greeley is a testament to her unwavering commitment to serve her community through the Community Outreach Center (COC).

Eager to make a difference in her new home, she reached out to COC to volunteer, demonstrating a readiness to listen and learn, which has enabled her to excel in various roles. As a native Spanish speaker, Lamar's unique bilingual skills have profoundly enhanced connections with Spanish-speaking individuals, allowing her to communicate not just logistics but also empathy and understanding. Whether she’s explaining the shopping process or offering heartfelt prayers, her compassionate approach resonates deeply with those she serves.

Lamar’s versatility in taking on diverse roles—from greeting and intake to shopping management—reflects the spirit of dedication shared by many volunteers at COC, each contributing their unique talents to uplift those in need. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lamar and all our volunteers, whose collective efforts foster a strong sense of community and reinforce COC's holistic approach to assistance. Our Volunteers Make "Team COC" Incredible

Everyone working at the COC is a volunteer. At the heart of the COC, our volunteers exemplify selfless dedication, embodying the spirit of service as they generously give of themselves, truly living out the mission of compassion that defines our center.

Together, they navigate the challenges of unexpected absences—whether due to travel, illness, or injury—by stepping up for one another, ensuring that every role is filled and every need is met. Their exceptional communication skills shine brightly, as they swiftly coordinate schedule changes to keep our vital services running smoothly.

Recently, we faced a small hiccup when one of our "right arm" volunteers found himself temporarily sidelined. A quick group text was all it took to reassign his responsibilities, proving once more that teamwork is our secret ingredient! That included donation pickup at church, snow shoveling, and shopping. Brian, don’t think you can escape that easily—we're eagerly awaiting your return!

So here’s to Team COC, whose collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment uplift our community each day. Let’s keep the momentum going, knowing that every volunteer plays a crucial role in making a difference!

Prayer Matters

At the Community Outreach Center, dedicated greeters, like Karen, actively seek out opportunities to uplift our guests by engaging them in meaningful conversations about their lives.

One such guest, Dora, came to us in need of assistance, expressing her urgent desire for stable housing. When Karen offered to pray for God's provision in Dora's life, it ignited a spark of hope within her. Dora returned a week later, to express her heartfelt gratitude for our prayers, sharing the wonderful news that she had found an apartment despite the challenging housing market.

But the story does not end there; Dora's compassion extended beyond herself when she met another woman in need, inviting her to stay in her new home for safety and companionship. This beautiful chain reaction of compassion, fueled by prayer and support, exemplifies the transformative power of connection within our community. We invite you to join us in this mission of providing hope and assistance to those facing hardships, as together we can create ripples of kindness that inspire change.

Encouragement Goes a Long Way

At the Community Outreach Center, we strive to create an environment where every individual feels seen and valued, especially during their most challenging times.

Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming "B," who came to us seeking food and clothing. As she shared her journey through cancer treatment, she courageously revealed her smooth head beneath a stocking cap. It was a poignant moment, and I assured her that she had come to the right place for support.

Our wonderful volunteer, Rose, who herself has experienced the effects of chemotherapy, immediately connected with "B." With empathy and understanding, Rose set out to find the perfect hat, selecting one with a generous brim and a scarf in "B's" favorite color to add a personal touch. To hold it all together, Rose added a heart-shaped pin, a small yet meaningful gesture that resonated deeply. When Rose presented the hat to "B," it was a transformative moment; tears filled "B's" eyes, and a radiant smile spread across her face as she left our center, uplifted and encouraged. This is the power of community, where kindness and connection can turn a simple act of giving into a profound experience of hope and belonging.

A CALL TO ACTION

BRRR! Winter finally arrived with a vengeance. Cold weather affects everyone. Whether it's a child walking to school, a laborer working outside or someone experiencing homelessness, they all need to stay warm to maintain their health.

The COC gives cold weather clothing to help meet that need. Would you help?

We need all sizes of coats, boots, hats, gloves, hand warmers, work boots, and heavy socks, sweatpants, and men's clothing. THANK YOU!
