Our June Newsletter

St. Nicholas Church in Ghent, photographed from the top of the Belfort, Ghent's medieval bell tower. Although we've been home for six weeks, it seems that we haven't yet had time to sit down, relax, and recover from our trip.

The first installment of our Spring Opening last month far exceeded our expectations, and we're grateful to all who participated. We'll be offering a second group of new pieces in a few days. You can read all about this just below.

Further down the page, a pictorial report on an interesting exhibition of the paintings of Joseph Wright of Derby that we enjoyed at the National Gallery in London. And beyond that, a reposting of pictures taken during a 2009 visit to Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. This month's Back Page is an entertaining video of a hyperactive canary playing to passersby on a sidewalk in Ghent.

Thanks for reading.

Joseph Wright of Derby

Our recent visit to London coincided with a National Gallery exhibition of by the 18th-century English painter Joseph Wright of Derby. Wright is probably best known for his works executed in a style based upon intense contrasts between light and dark, a style known as tenebrism.

Notes From Our Past

In 2009 we spent a week in Cornwall, based in the coastal village of St. Agnes. Our daily excursions took us to many of Cornwall's most characteristic places, but none was more memorable than our drive through Bodmin Moor. Click the picture to join us for a few moments.

The Back Page

During our recent visit to Ghent, we spent our final Sunday revisiting Van Eyck's renowned Ghent Altarpiece, shopping Ghent's weekly flea market, wandering the old city, climbing the Belfort, enjoying lunch with friends, and window shopping. While pursuing this last activity, we happened upon a small shop on a well-traveled street. On the sidewalk in front of shop was a canary in a birdcage. Click HERE to watch the show!
