A Message from the Executive Director | | |
Dear Colleague,
We are immensely grateful to everyone who attended, presented, spoke, organized, or sponsored CUGH2026. Virtual meetings have their benefits but meeting in person is invaluable, particularly in these unstable times. We listened carefully to your suggestions and immediately after the conference we set to work actively collaborating with colleagues from around the world to implement as many as we can.
Semafor’s World Economy Forum took place in Washington, DC the week after our meeting. Over 500 CEOs from some of the world’s biggest companies were there. It was a superb opportunity to listen to them and share what CUGH and our members are doing to improve health and environmental outcomes which are critically important to having a strong workforce and a robust economy.
Co-chaired by CUGH Board Member, Dr. Malabika Sarker, and Prince Mahidol University, a new Asian Society for Implementation Science was created in Bangkok. I provided a keynote address on how global health can help address the threats before us. At the NIH ECHO Symposium, CUGH showcased work by its members to improve child health. I gave the Annual Holloway Lecture in Delaware on Improving Global Health Security, a keynote address in Waterloo, Ontario at McMaster University on how global health can build forward, and I gave Grand Rounds at the University of Vermont. We attended the World Health Assembly in Geneva to: continue our collaboration with the WHO and partners to improve Emergency, Critical, and Operative Care; create a new Nursing Working Group; advance planetary health solutions with France’s One Sustainable Health Group; and much more. Dr. Ala Alwan built on the meeting he held at CUGH2026 and held another all day meeting at Oxford University on addressing NCDs.

Thank you for your ongoing collaboration with CUGH.

| For public servants in the US who have lost their jobs, we have been finding sites that may be helpful to you: https://fedsupport.org/ | | In the US? Engage Your Congressperson. | | |
Engaging politicians is vital to affecting change. Contact your congressional representatives in their state and district offices. Call, write, or email your concerns and offer solutions. Personal calls matter.
- Communicate the economic and human impact of these policies on individuals, communities, and institutions—both in the U.S. and globally.
- Try to get your asks on TV and radio, and share informed commentaries on social media.
If you are in the US, you can find and contact your representatives here:

| | Find and Fund Defunded Global Health Grants | | The website, Re-Fund Global Health, created by Dr. Megan Murray enables researchers to post their defunded grants and lists them online. We hope this site attracts funders to support these research efforts. | | |
Our listservs are open access and provide members of our network with the opportunity to share messages directly—without needing to route them through the CUGH Secretariat. We encourage thoughtful use of these listservs to maintain their value and effectiveness as a communication tool.
Becoming a listserv member is a great way to stay informed and connected with the global health community.
