The Gift of Advent
With the coming of Advent we have begun a new liturgical year in the Church. Advent is a word that means “the coming;” a word that implies a waiting; an anticipation; a longing for that which is coming. For us Christians, that coming is the birth of our Savior in Bethlehem on Christmas Day.
This season is a gift - or perhaps a better word is an opportunity - to prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord through a sincere examination of our lives to determine just how significant God is in them. It is a chance to make a commitment to do better. It is a chance to serve those less fortunate than ourselves. It is a chance to meditate and pray, especially in the celebration of the Eucharist.
With all of the craziness of the season that the world says should be our priority, let us not forget why this season is here.
Christ is coming.
Be watchful! Be alert!
