Hello Friends,
During this season of gratitude, I want to express my heartfelt thanks for our tremendous RTMC community – our Board members, staff team, volunteers, donors, community partners and, last but certainly not least, our fabulous homeowners. Together, your collective efforts truly bring our mission to life: Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives.
Our critical home repair work continues in earnest, and I am delighted to report we just completed repairs for our 73rd family this fiscal year. Our goal is to serve 180 vulnerable families by June 30, 2023. Shout out to our wonderful RTMC Board and our fantastic staff team who makes it all happen: Mat Saunders, Christina Devlin, Gabby Garcia, Beki Mitiku, Vivian Bacarezza Navarro, Shelby Badger, and Karen Kozopas.
Special thanks to all who donated to our Giving Tuesday campaign and to our friends at Bozzuto who generously provided a $3,000 match. I’m delighted to report that we surpassed our goal and raised a total of $7,550.40!
Please check out all of the wonderful stories below and don’t forget to mark your calendar for National Rebuilding Day 2023. RTMC will be offering three volunteer group workdays to choose from: Friday, April 28; Saturday, April 29; or Sunday, April 30. Please contact me at mpeterson@rebuildingtogethermc.org for more information.
With gratitude,

Rebuilding Together with JBG Smith Volunteers
A huge thank you to the JBG Smith Care Volunteers who came out in force to help homeowners Mr. and Mrs. C., a Silver Spring couple with chronic health issues. Faulty pipes in their home burst and caused massive damage. With new drywall recently installed by our friends at Rock Spring Contracting, the JBG Smith volunteers helped with the final phase of the project to prime and paint the walls and ceilings. The team also repaired and power washed the deck. Special thanks to RTMC Board Member Ed Mullaney, VP at JBG Smith, for leading the charge.
Giving Back to Our Veterans with DVNF
RTMC is honored to partner with the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF), which has provided RTMC with a $20,000 grant to fund critical home repairs and accessibility modifications for veterans in need living in Montgomery County. We recently completed critical home repairs and modifications for four veterans, and we have three more projects currently in the works. Joseph VanFonda (USMC Sgt.Maj. Ret.), CEO of the Disabled Veterans National Foundation said, “We are very excited to partner with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County's Safe & Healthy Homes for Veterans Program. This is a much-needed program for our disabled and at-risk veterans who cannot afford to repair issues within their homes due to the landscape of our economy. This is a great program.” RTMC is honor to give back to our wonderful veterans.
Thank you, Truist & Montgomery County Government!
Check out our new rides at RTMC! Thanks to generous grants from Truist and Montgomery County Government, RTMC was able to replace our two older model trucks, one that was totaled (thankfully no one was hurt!) and the other that had repairs needed that exceeded the value of the vehicle. Another anonymous generous donor provided the funds to wrap the vehicles so we can advertise our free critical home repair services while we drive around the county. We are so grateful as these vehicles are an integral part of how we will meet our goal to serve 180 families in need this fiscal year. Look out MoCo, here we come!
RTMC's Safe & Healthy Homes Program to Expand!
Accessibility Modifications Courtesy of Wells Fargo
Homeowners Mr. and Mrs. H. have lived in their townhouse in Germantown since 2010. Mrs. H. was in desperate need for accessibility modifications as her health has deteriorated in recent years. With the help of a generous Wells Fargo grant, RTMC was able to do extensive modifications to the home, including installation of a stairlift, a comfort height toilet, a shower transfer bench, and new exterior handrails. We also provided additional repairs to their fence and installed a new door in their basement to improve security. Mr. and Mrs. H. were delighted with the accessibility modification that will greatly improve their day to day lives.
Homeowner Stories: Our Neighbor, Ms. R.
Ms. R. is an 88-year-old homeowner who lives alone in the Silver Spring condominium she bought two decades ago. When Ms. R. has maintenance and repair problems in her condominium, she sometimes feels regretful that she bought the property, because it can be overwhelming and she has no children of her own. She is very grateful that her condominium has social workers on its staff who helped her find Rebuilding Together Montgomery County. Thanks to a grant from our partners at Omaze, RTMC was able to provide Ms. R. with a sink repair plus a new faucet, new flooring in an area damaged by water intrusion from a window, and repairs to the window to seal it against future leaks. She couldn’t be happier for all that we did for her, allowing her to continue to safely age in place.

Don't forget to make your year-end donation!
Behind every front door is a story of home and family. Many of us are fortunate to have a home that is a warm and welcoming place. Unfortunately, this is not always the reality for many of our neighbors in need.
With your support, we can change that. Our Board, staff team, volunteers, and contractor partners have worked tirelessly this year to provide critical repairs to help vulnerable neighbors improve the health and safety of their homes.
We believe everyone deserves a safe, healthy, and hazard-free home. You can help make this vision a reality. Thank you for considering a year-end gift to RTMC. Every donation matters and makes a difference.
