Hello Friends,

Happy Halloween! As we close out October, we are grateful to our RTMC community for your steadfast support of our mission: Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives. It’s been a busy month and I am delighted to report we just completed critical home repairs for our 58th family this fiscal year. Our goal is to serve an additional 12 vulnerable families by June 30, 2023. Shout out to our wonderful RTMC Board and our fantastic staff team who makes it all happen: Mat Saunders, Christina Devlin, Gabby Garcia, Beki Mitiku, Vivian Bacarezza Navarro, Shelby Badger, and Karen Kozopas.

We hosted several terrific events this month that you can read all about below, including our annual RTMC Golf Tournament and build days with our Rebuilding Together National Board and volunteers from The Wells Church.

Please mark your calendar for National Rebuilding Day 2023. RTMC will be offering three volunteer group workdays to choose from: Friday, April 28; Saturday, April 29; or Sunday, April 30. National Rebuilding Day volunteer information will be available soon.

Together, we are helping to preserve affordable housing and making a tangible difference for our Montgomery County neighbors in need. Thank you!

With gratitude,

Maury Peterson

Executive Director

RT National Board Members Help 86-Year-Old Widow

Tremendous gratitude to the Rebuilding Together National Board Members and staff team who joined us from around the country to provide critical repairs and accessibility modifications at the home of Mrs. C., an 86-year-old widow from Silver Spring. The team jumped in, rolled up their sleeves and truly brought our mission to life. They removed old carpeting, began the installation of new flooring, installed a new storm door, replaced worn stair treads, repaired several hand railings, built a huge garden box, cleaned up the yard, spruced up the garden with fresh mulch, and installed a new refrigerator, courtesy of Board Member Todd Bleckley from Lowe's.

A special thank you to Kevin Rafferty, Rebuilding Together National Board Chair, who will soon be completing his board service. Rebuilding Together and our affiliate network has grown stronger thanks to his leadership.

Rebuilding with The Well Community Church

Our volunteer friends from The Well Community Church were out in force earlier this month to help RTMC homeowner Ms. W., a senior citizen from Sandy Spring who has owned her home from many years. The team worked hard on a number of critical home repairs, including connecting the new washer purchased by RTMC, installing a dryer and sump pump, repairing a sink leak in the kitchen, repairing and patching drywall in several rooms, installing new grab bars and repairing the front porch and steps to improve safety, repairing the gutters and downspout, and cleaning up and sprucing up the yard. Wow -- all in one day! We are grateful to the group for helping to improve the overall safety and health of the home to allow Ms. W. to age in place for years to come.

Homeowner Stories: Our Neighbor, Mr. T.

RTMC was delighted to assist homeowner Mr. T., who lives in his Montgomery Village home with his wife and children. As a double amputee, Mr. T. was unable to safely access the second floor of his townhouse. Instead of being able to sleep in his upstairs bedroom, he slept in the first floor living room and he had no access to an accessible bathroom or shower. Thanks to our community of donors, RTMC was able to install a customized chair lift to the second floor and create a fully accessible bathroom and shower for Mr. T. to safely access with his wheelchair. He is delighted to be more independent in his own home and loves the ability to take hot showers all on his own
