New Position Statement on Immigration Policies
Florida PTA Stands for Safe & Supportive Schools for All Students
The Florida PTA Board of Directors has adopted a new position statement reaffirming that public schools are places of learning, not immigration enforcement zones. Schools should not be required to determine or report a child’s immigration status.
To safeguard all students, Florida PTA urges school districts to require judicial warrants before granting immigration agents access, designate trained administrators as enforcement points of contact, and preserve parental rights by notifying parents before a student is questioned or detained by law enforcement.
As an association, we ensure that all student records under FERPA regulations are protected. Florida PTA also calls for schools to be designated as “sensitive locations” where immigration enforcement actions are prohibited, and the role of educators remains to teach our students.
We remain committed to advocating for policies that protect all children and ensure their right to a safe, supportive education.

recently had the opportunity to
I recently had the opportunity to attend a Student Empowerment retreat at the Florida PTA Office in Orlando, Florida. During this retreat I was exposed to many things and learned a countless amount of new information that will help me develop as a leader and advocate for student rights. On the first day of the retreat me and other members of the Student Empowerment Committee were granted courtesy seats to Florida PTA’s Board of Directors meeting. In this meeting I was able to understand and experience the innerworkings of the PTA business and how they are dedicated to the protection and development of students of Florida. I watched the leaders within PTA work together despite sharing opposing views and thoughts all with the effort of putting the students first. It was very intriguing and excited to see the passion of these adults on display working together for the betterment of all students of Florida. After the meeting and lunch, me and other committee members collaborated and developed the curriculum for training sessions that will be held at the annual FL PTA Leadership Conference. It was interesting to work with my peers, hear each other’s ideas and learn from one another to achieve the same mission. The second day of the retreat was more relaxed and fun. We created a PSA that will be uploaded to social media TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook to promote the committee and recruit new committee members and promote attending the Leadership Convention. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn, develop personally, and to get to know my fellow committee members. It was super fun and I look forward to the next retreat.

March is Women's History Month
In honor of March as Women’s History Month, this is a reminder that the National Parent Teacher Association was founded by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst on February 17, 1897, in Washington, D.C., as the National Congress of Mothers. The first meeting consisted of over 2,000 parents, teachers, workers, and legislators. Our founders represented women of imagination and courage. They had a simple idea—to improve the lives and future of all children. They understood the power of individual action, worked beyond the accepted barriers of their day, and took action to change the world for all children.
The Florida PTA began in 1921, with an organizational meeting in Jacksonville. In 1923, Florida PTA became an official branch of the National PTA. Mrs. James A. Craig of Jacksonville became Acting President. The Charter was granted on April 14, 1923 while Mrs. F. E. Godfrey, of Orlando, was president. We were the 45th state to become a branch of the National PTA.
Florida PTA has a long history of women and men advocating for children’s rights. To celebrate, this year's theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” Check out this site for the 2025 Women’s History Month toolkit for ideas:

It is a time to recognize the historical achievements women have made to help advance us.
