Tumor microenvironment transcriptional heterogeneity in neoadjuvant therapy response prediction in MIBC

Bladder cancer remains a challenging disease, especially for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) and metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC). Enfortumab Vedotin (EV), an antibody-drug conjugate, has shown promise, especially when combined with pembrolizumab, reducing cancer progression and mortality compared to chemotherapy. However, while many patients respond well initially, some experience treatment resistance, limiting its long-term effectiveness.

Dr. Peter Black and his team are leading a critical research project to better understand this resistance - why some bladder cancers stop responding to EV and pembrolizumab, and to develop tools that help predict which patients are most likely to benefit from this treatment.

Role: Walk Lead

Fun fact about me: I enjoy swimming and bicycling. Last summer I was a cycling instructor teaching safe cycling to kids and adults.

Why are you passionate about volunteering for BCC: I am passionate about volunteering with BCC because not only are we raising funds for research and awareness but BCC also offers guidance to patients. Being diagnosed with bladder cancer is a sudden shock that leaves many patients feeling lost or hopeless but by using the information guides, One2One support, support groups or the discussion forum, patients can feel confident on their route to recovery.
