Celebrating a New Chapter

Dear Hoboken,

On Saturday, October 14, the Hoboken Public Library held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its $7 million 3rd Floor Historic Restoration. We were joined by city, state, and community leaders to celebrate the opening of our restored Children's Room, a new Story Time Room, an expanded Teen Room, and Hoboken's inaugural free public Makerspace. Watch the ceremony here!

If you haven't had a chance to visit the 3rd floor yet, please join us for our Books & Brew fundraiser to see the space in all its splendor! Hosted by the Hoboken Public Library Friends & Foundation, this event will take place at the library on Thursday, November 2. Join us for an evening of banned book trivia, local brews by Hoboken Brewing, and light bites from East LA to support the Hoboken Free Public Library.

This month, we are also thrilled to host an incredible lineup of Halloween programs and events. Our final Bookbike Story Times of the 2023 season will take on a seasonal twist, with spooky tales and Halloween-themed visits throughout Hoboken. Other Halloween events will include craft programs for children and teens, a Senior Luncheon at the Hoboken Housing Authority, and an all-ages Halloween Party on Monday, October 30. Check out our complete calendar of Halloween events here and come join us!

Witches Get Stuff Done

by Molly Harper

"From the moment Riley Everett set foot in Starfall Point, magic bubbled inside of her. But with only her late aunt's journals and a cantankerous live-in ghost butler to instruct her on all things witchy--including her newly inherited Victorian haunted house--Riley seeks out a coven for sisterhood and support. The last person she expects to be drawn to is the town's frustrating, yet ridiculously attractive head librarian. Edison Held knows almost everything there is to know about Starfall Point, but Shaddow House was always off-limits, thanks to its elusive owner. Edison will do whatever he can to help Riley keep her family legacy alive, especially if it means spending more time with the captivating new witch in town."

The Invisible Man

by H.G. Wells

"A mysterious stranger arrives at a rural Sussex inn on a cold winter's night with his face obscured by bandages and his body cloaked in a long, heavy coat. He locks himself in his room and spends his stay labouring over chemicals in intricate glass bottles. The villagers, bewildered by what lurks under the bandages, could never be prepared for the terrible truth: that the man is a scientist who has rendered himself invisible and is desperately struggling to find an antidote. He flees to the rugged, cliff-lined coast, where, under the pressure of isolation and pursued by police and an angry mob, he is intent on murderous revenge."
