More Than Just a Store...

TROSA's multi-year residential treatment model gives individuals the time, services, and opportunities to make transformative changes in their lives.

TROSA is just starting to welcome residents to a new campus in Winston-Salem. A small team of residents and staff are actively paving the way to soon accept new residents to our first-ever satellite campus.

Our TROSA Thrift Store in Winston-Salem is an important therapeutic component of our program. Residents will participate in the store's operations, learning hands-on life skills (such as communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution) to help prepare for life in recovery.

“I'm so thankful for the staff at the Thrift Store," shares TROSA Graduate and Staff-in-Training Danny. "I’ve learned so many lessons here. I’m learning how to communicate better with those around me and how to set boundaries with people.” Danny's community assignment at our Durham TROSA Thrift Store also reinforced his strengths in customer service, which he shares is a source of confidence and pride.

Meet Angela:

TROSA Graduate

and Thrift Store Manager

“March 15, 2012. I remember walking onto TROSA's campus that day and thinking, ‘I am so ready,’” shares TROSA graduate and staff member Angela.

Those were not easy steps to take. For several years, Angela had been battling a dangerous cycle of addiction. While at a detox facility, she was urged by a counselor to try TROSA's multi-year recovery program.

At TROSA, Angela focused on behavior changes while learning and practicing new life skills. Residents can take advantage of opportunities to learn and grow in recovery through various community assignments, which include the TROSA Thrift Store.

With community support, Angela identified and addressed the issues and emotions driving her addictions and was able to practice living in recovery on a daily basis.

After graduating from TROSA’s two-year program, Angela was asked to join the staff as Admissions Manager. An accomplished and compassionate leader, Angela has earned many credentials, including North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).

Today, Angela is taking on a new role to help even more people. She is helping establish TROSA's first-ever satellite campus in Winston-Salem and is the Manager of our new TROSA Thrift Store in Winston-Salem.

"Taking on this new role allows me to learn new skills while still contributing to the care and well-being of our residents, which gives me purpose. I am excited to be involved in this moment of growth for TROSA."

Angela's presence as TROSA Thrift Store Manager for Winston-Salem will be vitally important.

"Residents see TROSA program staff in recovery and it gives them hope. I am proud of who I am today. I am a strong, confident woman in long-term recovery."
