Politics & Policies
Did Someone Say…Tariffs?
Politics and business strategies have always been connected in significant ways. As we move into 2025, many political influences on business are moving quickly. At this point, “Tariffs” seem to be leading the race.
While it is still difficult to discern where tariff policies will lead, we are reviewing possible impacts on our business, suppliers, and, ultimately, and most critically our customers. Will tariffs impact the price of imported equipment, parts, and materials utilized during the construction execution phase of our current projects? Most likely not. Could tariffs impact projects that are in the design engineering phase? Possibly. Are domestic alternative suppliers available to source specified equipment and materials if necessary? We are researching this point.
We will collaborate with our customers as the first step in developing project-by-project tariff strategies. WLPLS stands ready to support our customers with regard to this topic.

WLPLS held a homecoming celebration for our very own Jonatan O Carrillo Gamez (Jonatan Carrillo) as he obtained his American Citizenship on Wednesday, February 12th.
Jonatan was born in Venezuela and grew up hearing stories of the US from his parents and elders. He greatly loves American music, art, and culture and has always dreamed of making the United States his home.
Jonatan has always been very hard-working, studying Marketing at IUTAV in Venezuela, Revit (BIM & Design) at Arts Institute Panama, and Architecture at UIP in Panama.
Jonatan began his career in Venezuela as a draftsman, then obtained employment as an Architectural Drafter in Panama. After Seven years in Panama, he was offered employment as a Revit Technician at a Pittsburgh Firm, which eventually led him to WL Port-Land Systems, Inc.
This is what Jonatan had to say about his citizenship journey: Read More>>>

Our NEW Process Improvement Tool | |
|
Great communication, efficiency, and recordkeeping are table stakes in the business world: you have them, you’re in; you don’t, and you might as well fold. Recognizing this, WLPLS recently invested in a new construction management software tool to enhance all 3 of these areas.
Early training and formatting of the system’s permissions, templates, filing structures, and interfaces are underway. We are gradually loading actual project data into the software and internally using the system’s workflows. Ultimately, we will open the system to our vendors, suppliers, and customers.
Thank you in advance for your patience as we implement this process improvement tool.

One of the biggest hurdles we face in the engineering department is designing a facility or structure that simplifies equipment maintenance and housekeeping.
Whether we are building a feed mill, a grinding building, a finished feed tower, or a receiving system, equipment maintenance and housekeeping must be considered part of the package.
Renovating or updating an existing facility is always a challenge. In this industry, it's a constant struggle to increase production—which means...Read More>>>

During Super Bowl LIX, Americans consumed approximately 1.47 billion chicken wings, an increase of 1.5% (or about 20 million wings) from the previous year. This equates to roughly four wings for every person in the United States.
Retail wing sales during the playoffs leading up to the Super Bowl were strong, with a 12% increase nationwide for the four weeks ending January 19, 2025, compared to the prior period. In markets represented by playoff-contending teams, such as Kansas City and Philadelphia, combined sales growth topped 15.5% during the same period.
