Our November Newsletter

Yes, it really is November! Our mower, hoses, and garden tools are going into hibernation for a few months, and we've been busily putting together our three early-winter events. The very successful first session of our Autumn Opening is behind us, and the second is in the final gasps of preparation and will certainly be ready in time for the weekend. Then, as soon as packages are mailed and local deliveries are made, we'll beginning preparing scores of antique and vintage pieces chosen for this December's Gift Fest. Please join us.

Fall Opening - Session II

On the weekend of October 17 - 18 we posted The Best of the Best - approximately 60 newly acquired pieces from all inventory categories. This weekend, November 7 - 8, we'll offer The Best of the Rest - another 60 new stock items we think you'll like, but with a somewhat lower price point. The format of the presentation will be the same as last month's. Look for an email at 10:00 on Saturday.

Then, coming soon after, is our annual December Gift Fest - more than 100 antique and vintage pieces, chosen for giftability and price. The sale will begin on December 5. Look for more information in our December Newsletter on Tuesday, the 1st.

From our Fall Trip - A day in Florence

We've visited Florence many times and feel quite at home wandering its narrow streets and exploring the wonderful buildings and collections that fill the city. We've visited the major sights: the Uffizi, the Bargello, the Duomo, climbing the more than 400 steps to the top a few years ago, and the other major tourist attractions. For our most recent visits we've stayed in Airbnb apartments in Oltrarno, the somewhat less touristy area on the other bank of the Arno. In September we found another pleasant apartment, only a few steps from the Ponte Vecchio. From this pied a terre we planned to visit our favorite, lesser-known places. Our first day would take us to the amazing Palazzo Davanzati and the cathedral of Santa Croce. To join us, please click the picture of Brunaleschi's Dome, seen through a window in the Palazzo Vecchio.

Notes From Our Past

This month we take you back to summer 2009 and a little botanical essay on bittersweet, the invasive species we love to hate. Perhaps it's just an excuse to visit our beloved old barn that was leveled by a tornado in 2017. Click the picture of the invader to see lots of green.

The Back Page

We arrived at Peretola Airport outside of Florence and took the tram into the city. From the station we walked through the narrow streets of the historic center to reach our apartment on the other side of the Arno. En route, we walked by a large group of young men, dressed in tuxedos, preparing for a feast. Another Italian wedding? Click HERE to decide for yourself.
