Embrace the Spirit of Giving with Bladder Cancer Canada

We are thrilled to kick off the giving season, and invite you to join us in making a difference as we participate in Giving Tuesday.

This #GivingTuesday, we want to enhance our programming for all patients across Canada with a new resource!

The needs of bladder cancer patients are unique, so this #GivingTuesday we have set a goal of $15,000 to help fund the creation of a new Healthy Living Guidebook full of information, resources, recipes, nutrition tips, and exercise.
With your help, we can provide patients, caregivers, and their support teams with resources essential for living a healthy life with and beyond a bladder cancer diagnosis.

Join us in this important endeavor on Giving Tuesday (November 28th)!
Hasu's Story: From Diagnosis to Empowerment: Life Beyond a Bladder Cancer Diagnosis

This month, we are shining a spotlight on inspiring stories of resilience. Meet Hasu, an active volunteer and patient, as she shares her journey with bladder cancer and the invaluable support she found through Bladder Cancer Canada resources.

"Thanks to Bladder Cancer Canada (BCC) I have come a long way in understanding that it’s possible to live well even after a radical cystectomy. I have had the opportunity to meet other bladder cancer survivors in person as well as in online events and support groups facilitated by BCC."

Recently Announced at ESMO Congress: Breakthrough Medication Combination Shows Extended Survival in Advanced Bladder Cancer Patients

Exciting advancements in bladder cancer treatment are on the horizon as a new combination of cancer medications demonstrates promising results. Recently presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress in Madrid, the research highlights the efficacy of enfortumab vedotin and pembrolizumab, administered via IV infusions. The combination significantly reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 55% in previously untreated patients with advanced bladder cancer, leading to a remarkable median overall survival of 31.5 months compared to 16.1 months with standard chemotherapy. These findings mark a significant stride in the ongoing efforts to enhance the treatment landscape for advanced bladder cancer.

Volunteer Role: Maritime Support Group Facilitator

Fun Fact: I was the first teacher to bring yoga into our high school as a grade 11 course elective. My moment of pride was watching my students teach chair yoga to seniors and kindergartners.
Passion Towards Volunteering for BCC: BCC as well as so many others were my support when I was going through my healing journey, and this is one way of paying it forward. I know the importance of social connection for our emotional and physical health, and looking forward to the opportunity. As someone who was given an incurable prognosis with advanced bladder cancer in 2020, I have been cancer free since 2021, and so, so grateful! My favourite quote….Gratitude is the ability to experience life as a gift! John Ortberg
