Our October Newsletter

London was kind enough to pose for this candid shot from our Boeing 777 a few weeks go as we descended into Heathrow Airport. After a few days of visiting dealers in London and the Cotswolds, we took an extended holiday in the Netherlands. We'll be sharing pictures of that delightful, although somewhat water-soaked, vacation in future newsletters.

But for now, we're focussed on our October show, which will be a bit earlier than usual, as will our December Gift Fest. On Saturday morning, October 18, you'll receive the Fall Opening email containing thumbnails for a large crop of new listings. During the past six months we've had very good fortune on this side of the Atlantic, and we've managed to acquire several great pieces of furniture as well as outstanding smalls and paintings. Then, as usual, the English dealers who source much of our early jewelry made our trip extremely worthwhile. The result will be a rich, varied opening, with nearly one hundred pieces on view for the first time.

This month's newsletter features a visit to the Toledo Museum of Art, a gem of a museum which we almost missed. Notes From Our Past relates an incident that took place early in the development of our business, and The Back Page is a street scene from Haarlem. We hope you'll enjoy it all and that you'll also take a few minutes to shop our Fall Opening on the 18th.

A Visit to the Toledo Museum of Art

Our late summer vacation in Ohio and Michigan was originally planned as a visit to museums in Cleveland and Detroit. Our stop in Toledo and our day in its outstanding museum were an aterthought and, as you'll see, a very happy one. Click the picture for a look.

The Back Page

September 20 was a rainy day in the Netherlands. We were in Haarlem on our way to visit the Frans Hals Museum and, having forgotten our umbrella in our bead and breakfast, were in a rush to reach the shelter of the former almshouse that contains this wonderful museum. But a sign outside of a leather shop stopped us in our tracks. CLICK HERE to see what we saw.

Thank you being a subscriber and customer.

Stay safe and be well.
