SUPPORT BRIGHT FUTURES!

Dear Charting Careers Friends and Family,

This is always an exciting time of year for Charting Careers! We are planning our annual Scholarship & Awards Night, supporting our seniors as they prepare for graduation, and feeling the pride that comes along with celebrating our scholars' growth over the many years we have worked with them. In addition, as part of our paid internship program designed to help scholars further discover their power and develop as leaders for equity, our high school scholars planned their own Career Networking Event. It was such a joy to watch them succeed with this event last week, and our middle school scholars were fully engaged participants.

Thank you for all you do to support the great work of our young scholars! If you would like to get even more involved, here are some ways:

  • Become a 1:1 tutor. We are recruiting now for next fall.
  • Become a 1:1 mentor. We still have students who are waiting for a mentor.
  • Join our Career Mentor Network and help with future Career Day events.
  • Donate. Each year we give scholarships to our seniors and college students. The more donations we have, the more we can give. It's not too late to contribute to one of our scholars becoming the first in their family to attend college!

Thank you for helping us send another group of capable, determined young people to college!

SPRING BREAK TRIP TO TOWSON UNIVERSITY

Over Spring Break 2023, Charting Careers staff organized a trip to Towson University. These college visits are such a great way for scholars to explore future options, visualize themselves as college students, and to do something fun and enriching over spring break! We were beyond thrilled to have one of our very own beyond-high-school scholars as the Towson Tour Guide, sharing excellent advice and inspiration.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT

We had a blast at our spring Family Game Night with scholars, parents/ caregivers, tutors, mentors, staff, and partners enjoying food, fellowship, football, and Family Feud! Thank you to Eastport United Methodist Church for being such a wonderful partner to us, and Ms. Rakeeda, from Arundel Lodge, Inc., for infusing parenting support while leading game time.

We always come home from family nights feeling grateful for this community and everyone who is a part of it. These events are a critical part of our model, as building and sustaining positive relationships are essential and take time and investment. If you know of any individuals or businesses who would like to sponsor one of these dinners, please email katie@chartingcareers.org.

ANNAPOLIS MIDDLE SCHOOL CAREER DAY 2023

Annapolis Middle School (AMS) Career Day 2023 was a big success! The event focused on 7th graders since this is such a critical year for students preparing to make high school decisions. Students were able to meet their sheriff, a planetary biologist, a doctor, firefighters, artists, public servants, human resource professionals, professors, engineers, and entrepreneurs - just to name a few.

Thank you to the amazing AMS students, volunteer student ambassadors, staff, and administration, and the approximately 30 professionals who spent their morning with us. A special shoutout to Laticia Hicks (Charting Careers Mentor & Volunteer Coordinator), Ms. Natasha Ogundare (AMS School Counseling Dept. Chair), and Ms. Amy Beller (AMS School Social Worker) for doing a great job coordinating the event!
