PDF's De Colores Rapid Response Fund supports grassroots organizations responding to "Movement Moments" through strategic organizing interventions, especially in communities of color and working class communities.

Movement for Justice in El Barrio and Chelsea Greenroots received $1,000 grants in March, right as the country moved into lockdown to ensure they could adapt their organizing strategies to this unprecedented crisis.

Chelsea Greenroots is based in Chelsea, MA, a densely populated city where over 60% of residents are Latino, almost half are immigrants, and 80% of the workforce are considered "essential employees." Chelsea had the worst COVID-19 outbreak in Massachusetts and among the worst nationally.

Chelsea Greenroots responded immediately, organizing city-wide fundraising efforts, food distribution centers, and ensuring multilingual communications of essential information. Executive Director Roseann Bongiovanni said, “Funding from PDF allowed us to ensure our COVID19 response was accessible in 8 major languages spoken by people in Chelsea. This is so important in ensuring our community has the access to the information and resources that they need during the most significant crisis hitting our community in a century.”

Movement for Justice in El Barrio is a majority-women community organization that fights for housing justice, immigrant justice and gender justice in East Harlem, NYC. PDF's grant supported ‘Movimiento's COVID-19 Emergency Response for Immigrants in El Barrio’ which helped ensure mutual aid and emergency resources were “quickly and efficiently dispersed to COVID-19 positive community members, their immediate families and others impacted by this pandemic.” Here's what they said about receiving the grant from PDF:
