Readings for Sunday
In our Genesis reading for Sunday, God makes a covenant with Abraham and Sarah: God’s promise to make them the ancestors of many, with whom God will remain in everlasting covenant. The reach of this promise is echoed in the Psalm: "All the ends of the earth..." Paul says this promise comes to all who share our ancestors' faith in God who brings life into being where there was no life. We receive this baptismal promise of resurrection life in faith. Sarah and Abraham receive new names as a sign of the covenant, and we too get new identities in baptism, as we put on Christ.
Readings and Psalm
Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16
Psalm 22:23-31
Romans 4:13-25
Mark 8:31-38
Questions to ponder.
When is enough enough? If we expand our welcome, how far should we go? How far would God go?

Are you new (or newish) to Our Saviour's? We will be receiving new members during worship on Pentecost Sunday (Sunday, May 19). During April and May, we invite newcomers to gather for three sessions to learn more about each other, Lutheranism, and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. These gatherings are typically around 75 minutes, a bit social, and a great chance to connect. Whether you plan to officially join or just want to learn more about our community, you are welcome. Please email Pastor Amalia to have your name added to the "Interested" list - once we have a small group, we will find a meeting time that works for all. Please know, that you are welcome to engage in community life here, including helping with worship and in other ways regardless of membership status. | | |
Utility Golf Cart
Do you or a friend have a golf cart taking up space and collecting dust? Our caretaker would love to put it to use here and on our nearby properties for cleanup and maintenance. Please contact the church office if you would like to discuss the possibility of donating or selling it to the church.

20-50 Something Book Club
Are you a 20-50 something who is interested in reading and discussing books that will challenge you to think differently about your faith?
Our next meeting will be on Sunday, March 10 at 10:30 in the Ramada Room (former nursery building).
The book is See No Stranger: How do we love in a time of rage? How do we fix a broken world while not breaking ourselves? Valarie Kaur—renowned Sikh activist, filmmaker, and civil rights lawyer—describes revolutionary love as the call of our time, a radical, joyful practice that extends in three directions: to others, to our opponents, and to ourselves.
If you have any questions, talk to Paige or Michael Marty.

Blenman Elm Neighborhood Revives Iconic Home Tour
After an 8-year pause, the biennial Blenman Elm Historic Neighborhood Home and Garden Tour returns on April 14, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Our own neighborhood is one of Tucson's most beloved and iconic. Established in the early 1900s, it includes Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, and the areas between Speedway, Grant, Campbell, and Country Club, This year’s self-guided tour features historic dwellings and gardens designed by nationally renowned architects, master gardeners, and sculptural artists. Homes reimagined with green infrastructure exemplifying sustainable and adaptable living will also be on display. The home tour is presented by the Blenman Elm Neighborhood Association (BENA) which is raising funds for neighborhood projects like pocket parks and community artworks and will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Blenman Elementary School. Pastor Amalia and David are volunteering and look forward to seeing Our Saviour's members on the tour!
Tickets are available now to see resilient living in historic homes as Blenman Elm neighbors open their doors to the community. For more information visit our For more information click here.

Thrivent Members - Choice Dollars Can Go to Our Saviour's
Those who are Thrivent members may have "Choice Dollars" that you can direct towards the nonprofit of your choice by March 31. Our Saviour's is able to receive these gifts. You should have received information from your Thrivent rep about this program. Members Gloria Alvillar & Ted Earle invite you to join them in directing your Choice Dollars to Our Saviour's. Just search for "Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Tucson, Arizona" in the Choice Catalog. All Choice Dollars must be designated by March 31.
Giving consideration - for those 70½ year old
and older who have an IRA.
You can give up to $105,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity without having to pay income taxes on the money. This includes giving to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Gifts of any value (up to $105,000) are eligible for this benefit. Some people call this an "IRA charitable rollover" or a "qualified charitable distribution").
If you are required to take minimum distributions, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your RMD obligation. You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.
Please talk with your financial planner if you are interested in giving this way. Your gift must come directly from your IRA to Our Saviour's in order to receive the tax benefit. You can read more about this option here: https://foundation.elca.org/give-from-your-ira. You can also talk with Pastor Amalia if you have more questions. Please note: if you plan to make your offering this way, please contact Michele so we are sure to record your offering correctly.

Recycling:
How does it work?
BLUE BIN: clean paper, rinsed aluminum cans, rinsed #1 and #2 plastic, rinsed metal
ORANGE BIN: plastic that is NOT #1 or #2 (basically ANY plastic that is not #1 or #2 can go in the ORANGE BIN)
GARBAGE: everything else - paper plates, paper napkins, paper cups, glass bottles, Styrofoam, takeout food containers, recyclables that you aren't willing to rinse out, anything that has food on it.
THANK YOU for helping the earth and honoring the people who sort our trash and Recycling.
