THE ADVOCATE

The latest updates from Austin Street Center

Dear Friends,

As we wrap up another impactful quarter, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we have made together. Already this year we have placed 508 people in stable housing, which means we are on track to help more people home in 2025 than any other year in our 40+ year history.

From launching new programs to strengthening existing services, we have seen firsthand how collaboration and compassion can transform lives. This summer we started our Safe in the City program in collaboration with Housing Forward North Texas and Downtown Dallas, Inc., to offer a safe place to stay overnight for unsheltered people in downtown Dallas and surrounding neighborhoods.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to build on this momentum. Our strategic priorities for the next quarter include expanding our services in partnership with North Texas Behavioral Health Authority through a pilot program aimed at providing a safe and resource-rich environment for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

We hope you will consider supporting us in this critical work by making a gift now through Thursday, September 18 for North Texas Giving Day—or by attending our 25th Annual Humble Beginnings Luncheon on Friday, October 3.

Thank you for being an essential part of our journey. Your belief in our mission fuels everything we do, and we are honored to have you by our side. Together, we are providing members of our Dallas community the hope, support and resources needed to find a safe place to call home.

With gratitude,

Daniel Roby

Staff Attend National Conference

Austin Street Center Client Solutions leadership had the opportunity to attend the 2025 National Conference on Ending Homelessness in Washington, D.C. from July 30-July 2. The conference brought together service providers, system leaders, advocates, and people with lived experience of homelessness to learn from each other, discuss best practices, and share new innovations in the field.

The Client Solutions team presented key learnings to Austin Street staff upon return. Valerie Palmer, LMSW, Director of Housing Coordination, said that for her, the conference reinforced that in times of uncertainty, we must center our services on the human experience. "Focus on stability, dignity and connection and collaborate with clients and think creatively about housing solutions," she said.

Help Us Meet Our NTX Giving Day Goal

Austin Street Center board member, Megan Burkhart, recently discussed her motivation to give back to the community on North Texas Giving Day with People Newspapers.

"Your donation will truly make a significant impact on the lives of thousands of individuals in our community," Megan said. "In 2024, Austin Street’s programs and services touched one in four people experiencing homelessness in Dallas."

Austin Street has a goal to raise $165,000 toward shelter services and programs for our neighbors in need now through September 18. Please visit our North Texas Giving Day page for more information or click the button below to donate today.
