Your Support Matters
Funds raised from the 2022 walk will help Bladder Cancer Canada fulfill its mission to:

  • Help bladder cancer patients and their supporters address the day-to-day issues of the disease
  • Increase awareness of bladder cancer among the public and medical community
  • Fund research which pursues the diagnosis, treatment and, elimination of bladder cancer

Here are some examples of how we’re putting your donations to work:

  • BCC brings awareness to bladder cancer through the 'See Red, See Your Doctor' campaign, which has been promoted through transit shelters, bus interiors, print media, doctor's offices, restrooms, subways, billboards and more.
  • BCC funds many medical research projects across Canada, often matched by other organizations to increase the impact. So far, BCC has provided over $2,841,000 to bladder cancer research since 2012.
  • BCC produces educational videos for patients and medical students. We have advanced plans in place to develop an accredited program to teach family doctors how to better diagnose bladder cancer.
  • BCC helps bladder cancer patients and their support teams address the day-to-day issues of the disease. This is achieved through:
  • The Bladder Cancer Canada website
  • Discussion Forum
  • Our One2One Patient Support Program
  • Patient Education Meetings and Webinars
  • Support Groups
  • Downloadable Digital Resources
  • BCC launched and funds CBCIS, a world-leading database and critical analytical tool to help urologists and researchers understand and develop better treatments and possibly find a cure.

How Bladder Cancer Canada is Making a Difference

“ I downloaded all the patient guidebooks off the Bladder Cancer Canada website. They helped me better understand the various stages of my bladder cancer diagnosis – from non-muscle invasive to muscle-invasive, and finally, the removal of my bladder. As a result, I knew what questions to ask my urologist." - Angela, 2021 Walk Lead

What is BCG? How was it discovered? How did it become a common form of treatment for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer?

Join us on December 5, 2022 at 7pm as Dr. Alvaro Morales provides us a history of BCG and answers many questions about this form of immunotherapy.

Dr. Morales discovered that BCG could be used to treat non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, which became the first proven immunotherapy for cancer! Dr. Morales’ research changed the course of urology and we are thrilled to have him joining us for this educational webinar!

If you would like to ask Dr. Morales a question about BCG, please submit it in advance by emailing Theresa at theresab@bladdercancercanada.org.

This session will be facilitated by Dr. Madhuri Koti and will be offered in French & English.

BCAN Think Tank Annual Meeting

In August, our Executive Director, Michelle Colero, and Vice Chair, Tony Cornacchia, took part in the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network's (BCAN) Think Tank Annual Meeting, which took place in Denver, Colorado. This event offered a wide range of insight into real-life bladder cancer patient experiences and updates regarding BCAN-funded research presentations and updates.
BCC at The World Bladder Cancer Patient Forum

On September 8th and 9th, Michelle Colero also represented Bladder Cancer Canada at the World Bladder Cancer Patient Forum in Paris, France.  There, the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition and member organizations highlighted the many ways to bring bladder cancer patient voices forward with action, and showcased the various projects that are positively impacting people affected by bladder cancer.
Meet Gail!

Volunteer Role: Walk Lead
Fun facts about Gail: I love crafting and baking, and in addition to entering my work in local fairs for prizes, I use my work as FUNdraising tools!

Why Gail is passionate about volunteering for BCC: I have been traveling to Toronto for 10 years now to participate in the Princess Margaret Cancer Center Walk. But COVID gave me the opportunity to create a team to walk virtually in Thunder Bay. Our team decided we wanted to continue doing a walk in Thunder Bay so when we heard about Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer, we were very excited. My friends and family are onboard, and we can do this together! I have a few friends who are survivors of bladder cancer so it is a perfect fit.
Warm Welcome to our new volunteers:
Aarushi Malkani, Mia Papasideris, Mary Chiovitti, Aaron Sutherland, & Cynthia Belfitt
