Registration is now open for our Chesapeake Urban Stormwater Professionals Courses: Science and Stormwater Practices and Stormwater Policies and Programs. Registration for our first course is open from now until June 28th. Also in this issue, we say farewell and thank you to our fall/spring interns, and a warm welcome to our summer intern!
After months and months of interviews, meetings, design iterations, and more, we are so excited to "soft-launch" our new website. We'll be sharing more about the details in our next Scoop, as well as continuing to highlight and update new resources, and work out the hiccups. Check it out, and let us know what you think! | | Q&A with our Fall/Summer Intern
We interviewed our outgoing intern, Jolette Lima, about her experience this year at Chesapeake Stormwater Network.
"I got to network through the interesting interviews I did, and seeing how others navigate their fields through their love of nature resonated with me and is inspiring. I want any work I do to go towards environmental stewardship, and conservation so this has been a great and educational experience for me."
| | Welcome to our Summer Intern! | | | | |
We're excited to have Ashleigh join us for the summer, where she will be working as the Stormwater Programs Intern and assisting us on our Stormwater BMP video series, refreshing website content, and writing articles for the Stormwater Scoop - amongst other fun projects! Get to know a bit more about Ashleigh in our interview below.

What excites you about working at CSN?
I am excited to learn more about stormwater best management practices (BMPs) and recently implemented and ongoing projects that employ these practices in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Growing up near the Bay, I’ve heard about BMPs and learned the importance of reducing runoff and nutrient pollution. I would love to learn more about how different levels of government, organizations, and individuals approach that, as well as how stormwater science and BMPs have evolved in recent years. Overall, I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned in the classroom to salient work that combats environmental degradation.
What are you hoping to do after your time at CSN?
Through my experience with CSN, I hope to discover more about myself, my interests, and what environmental career path I would like to pursue after undergrad. I am majoring in environmental policy and economics at the College of William & Mary and am still exploring which direction I would like to go, so I know that my time at CSN will provide valuable insight into my future environmental courses and graduate school plans.

You have a story you’d like us to feature in the Stormwater Scoop Newsletter, or if you want to chat about National Park sites, theatre, or anything Disney. I’m here for it!
| | This article explores how stormwater management has evolved from simply moving water away from development to designing systems that work with natural processes to improve resilience, water quality, and community spaces. Through the career of Ginny Snead, learn how engineering, policy, and long-term planning intersect in modern stormwater work, from MS4 compliance and flood resilience to green infrastructure and stream restoration, and the ways in which the field has changed over time, from niche programs to collective solutions. | | | Where in the Watershed is CSN? | | CSN and RAND's work on the Climate Vulnerability Assessment Guidebook was featured in the National Adaptation Forum poster session in May. | | |

From Data to Dialogue: Communicating Stormwater Science
By: Sofia Salvador-Turner
Featuring: David Hirschman, Hirshman Water & Environment, LLC
Last month, departing fall/spring intern Sofia Salvador-Turner interviewed stormwater expert Dave Hirschman as he reflected on decades in the field, highlighting the key challenges that persists today: namely, connecting small-scale BMP projects to meaningful, watershed-wide outcomes, and the importance of clearer storytelling to advance stormwater solutions.
