| CUGH Webinar Recording: Stopping the Targeted Killing of Healthcare Workers and First Responders in the Middle East | |
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important conversation on stopping the targeted killing of healthcare workers and first responders in Palestine and Lebanon. This webinar is the second in a series held by CUGH in collaboration with Dr. Ruth Gibson at Stanford University and medical professionals in Palestine, Lebanon, Israel, and the US who have shared their first hand accounts of these atrocities.
To stop the targeted killing, detention, and torture of our healthcare colleagues and first responders requires action. We need to mobilize colleagues, medical associations, and engage the media, the public, and politicians who have the power to stop these atrocities.
Here are actions you can take:

Share these webinars widely and often with your networks and publicly. Information needs to be repeated often to have an impact.

Engage your elected representatives to pursue: a halt to these targeted killings, the release of Palestinian physicians incarcerated in Israeli jails, and the cessation of aid and weapons transfers to Israel.
- Call for the prosecution of individuals involved in these targeted killings.

Acts of solidarity: engage with international, Palestinian, and Israeli organizations addressing these issues.

Call for the medical evacuation of sick or injured Palestinians and their immediate family members who can assist in their care to regional medical facilities.
Please also watch and share our February 2026 webinar, How to Provide Urgent Medical Care to Gaza. This webinar, with medical personnel in Palestine, Israel and the US describes the plight of thousands of children and adults who are critically ill, trapped in Gaza and blocked from accessing lifesaving medical care. Solutions on what you can do to enable these injured civilians to receive care in the region are shared in this webinar.
| | CUGH Call to Action: New Proposed Regulations Politicize and Severely Weaken US Research | | |
Publicly funded research has been governed by a straightforward principle: federal dollars should fund the best science, as determined by independent experts rather than politicians. Peer review, open competition, and institutional autonomy were the pillars of that system. New regulations proposed by the US Administration will dismantle all three pillars simultaneously. They will be government-wide and binding on every federal agency by October 1, 2026. Read the full Call to Action here.

APPI Mentorship Program:

The Academic Partnership Program Initiative (APPI) is a subcommittee of CUGH's Education Committee dedicated to fostering meaningful mentorship across the global health community. Each year, APPI connects CUGH members across disciplines, institutions, and countries through a structured group mentorship experience — pairing small cohorts of mentors with mentees for a full academic year of collaboration and growth.
Program dates: August 2026 – July 2027
Application deadline: July 10, 2026

Expectations for All Participants
By applying, mentors and mentees commit to the following:
- Attending an orientation session in August 2026
- Participating in monthly online group meetings (agenda and discussion led by mentees)
- Engaging actively and substantively during meetings
- Checking in with your group between meetings as appropriate
- Responding to program-related emails within ~3 business days

Completing evaluation surveys at designated points throughout the year
