Friends of Parks eNews
Greetings!

The season of Thanksgiving is here and our thoughts turn to all of you with warm appreciation.

Because of generous people like you, we've been able to make a great impact in your neighborhood Cincinnati Parks. This year, 150 new trees have been planted at Mt. Storm Park, a meditative garden has been added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Eden Park, multiple improvements are beginning in Burnet Woods and trails have been restored at French Park (just to name a few)!

May this month be a beautiful reminder of the special things around you, including your Cincinnati Parks. Please take a moment to read through our November Friends of Parks eNews edition. We have even more good news to share!

With gratitude,

#GivingTuesday is on December 3rd
As the holiday season ramps up, many of us return to memories of the things we cherish. Take a moment to reflect on what you are thankful for in the places that we all share, Cincinnati Parks. We all have a story in Cincinnati Parks, about how they impact our lives and the way they make us feel.

This December, we encourage you to give back to these Cincinnati treasures.  Consider making a donation to the Cincinnati Parks Foundation  as part of the world-wide #GIVINGTUESDAY campaign on December 3, 2019.
Tom Jones Commons Groundbreaking
Cincinnati Parks Foundation, with the City of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Park Board, officially broke ground on October 28, 2019 for the new Tom Jones Commons. Thanks to a gift from donor Tom Jones, over half a million dollars worth of improvements will develop the lower reservoir area at Eden Park.

Tom Jones was a long-time resident of Mount Adams who took regular walks through Eden Park. Over the years, he got to know many of the park employees working there. “It was the friendly waves, the friendly greetings that really made Eden Park special to me. I felt like part of the family… I became part of the park, thanks to those people,” Tom said.

These special relationships and his fondness for Eden Park inspired Tom to give back to his neighborhood “backyard.”

This month our volunteer spotlight is on the Ohio Climbers Coalition ! On October 19, we organized a clean-up and climbing day in Eden Park. Wonderful people came from all over the city and state to participate!

The volunteers worked around Mirror Lake, removing invasive species, trimming back overgrown areas, laying landscaping rocks and planting new bushes around the Eden Park Gazebo.

Thank you to everyone who came out, especially to those who are not locally in Cincinnati.

$150,000 Grant Received for Inwood Park
Children playing in Inwood Park
We are so excited to announce that we have received a $150,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to replace a 20-year old playground in Inwood Park.

In the summer, we invited our friends from Cincinnati Parks, PNC Bank, YMCA, Rising Stars Academy, the Mt. Auburn Community Development Corporation, and local children from the surrounding community to participate in a playground design meeting. The children described what their dream playground would look like through a variety of activities including drawing playground ideas, voting on playground elements and participating in open discussion. Cincinnati Parks will use the children’s ideas for inspiration in the playground’s final design.

Cincinnati Parks will break ground on the new playground on November 15, 2019.
