Dear Charting Careers friends and family,

During National Volunteer Week 2021, we want to express a special thank you to all of our remarkable volunteers! This has certainly not been an easy year and yet so many deeply dedicated people continue to show up and volunteer in numerous and important ways.

To highlight just a few of our amazingly dedicated volunteers ...
  • Our Read to Succeed mentors, many of whom have been with our organization since its inception(!), have adjusted to connecting with their elementary-aged scholars and families virtually. Despite challenges with technology, they've figured out ways to build relationships and have consistently shown up to read books with their students.
  • Our mentors for middle and high school students have shown their commitment and flexibility through these challenging times. They've gone on walks, listened openly, shown up virtually, and advocated in all kinds of ways for their mentees.
  • A fantastic crew of Content Tutors (including Tatiana Klein, a Centro de Ayuda board member, one of our own high school scholars, and several other incredible people) have stepped up to provide subject-specific tutoring to many Charting Careers students.
  • Our volunteer college advisor, Laura Burrell Baxter (Key School's Director of College Advising), who continuously prepares and assists Charting Careers scholars with their college application process (more on that soon!)
  • Our incredible Board of Directors has been working behind the scenes to make this organization happen! They spend MANY hours each week building our network of supporters, fundraising, thanking donors, tracking our finances, providing guidance to our staff, and much more!

We are so grateful for the many people who give endlessly of their time and talents and for the unwavering support of those who continue to dedicate themselves to the Charting Careers mission. We couldn't do this work without YOU!

Sincerely,
Erin Snell

Position description and application link.
* A Read to Succeed scholar and his tutor/mentor are now meeting three times a week for tutoring. The scholar's teacher shared that our scholar's grades have improved dramatically!

* A parent, mentor, and Charting Careers staff member helped successfully advocate for a scholar to get a seat on the bus so he could attend hybrid learning at school. After his first day back at school, he texted his mentor to say his day was "soooooo good!"

* Three new, successful mentor-mentee matches were made! A scholar remarked after meeting her new mentor, "She just knows me."

* Five students were connected with subject-specific tutors. Three more high school students and two more elementary students are now receiving ongoing math tutoring.
Charting Careers’ Anti-Racism and Inclusion
Accountability Action Plan
Charting Careers' commitment to Anti-Racism and Inclusion must be constant and unwavering and at the center of ALL mentoring relationships, educational programs, and scholar/family partnerships. Our organization commits to being publicly accountable for continuously addressing any aspects of white supremacy and racism within our organization and in our community. This requires an ongoing action plan to regularly report on our progress, learning, and continuous goal setting.
If you have a sincere desire to be involved with a young person and find joy in lifting them up ....
