Coming to the California Museum February 4, 2025, "Our War Too: Women in Service" is a groundbreaking exhibit from the National World War II Museum honoring the nearly 350,000 American women who answered the call to serve during World War II.


Explore over 200 unique artifacts, immersive projections, narrative films, and learn about the often-overlooked contributions of servicewomen, including the inspiring 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the all-Black, all-female unit featured in the recent Netflix film Six Triple Eight.

Northern California Time of Remembrance (NCTOR): Black Reparations/Reparative Justice Saturday, February 8 from 1-3 pm


In observance of the 83rd anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which led to the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II, the Northern California Time of Remembrance (NCTOR) committee will host its annual Day of Remembrance program on Saturday, February 8, 2025.


This year’s event, “Black Reparations/Reparative Justice,” features discussions with Dr. Cheryl Grills and Don Tamaki. Click the link below to learn more or purchase tickets.

Watch the Virtual Induction Ceremony of the

18th Class of the California Hall of Fame


On Thursday, December 19, Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom inducted the 18th class of the California Hall of Fame in a virtual ceremony at the California Museum. This all-women posthumous class is made up of trailblazers in public service, sports, music, and more.

"KLAMATH UNBOUND"

A HISTORIC RIVER RESTORATION

On Saturday, December 7, we celebrated the monumental restoration of the Klamath River—the largest dam removal project in U.S. history! The day was filled with powerful discussions, inspiring films, traditional basketweaving, and performances honoring the cultural and ecological significance of the Klamath.


Highlights included screenings of "Undammed" & "River of Renewal," discussions with Native leaders, ecologists & advocates, a "River of Renewal" book talk & signing, and musical performances by the K’iwinya’n-ya:n Singers and Jack Kohler & family.


Thank you to everyone who joined us for this celebration of resilience, culture, and restoration of the Klamath River!

Museum Updates

Now Booking Time of Remembrance Field Trips

January 27 – March 21, 2025 


The annual “Time of Remembrance” field trip program brings history to life through the first-hand accounts of Japanese American docents who experienced life behind barbed wire during WWII. In-person and online field trips aligned with 5th, 8th &11th grade History-Social Science, Common Core ELA and Ethnic Studies are available. Teachers can learn more here.

Steve Sasaki is the Docent on Duty in "Uprooted"

Friday, January 17: 10:30am -12:30pm


Steve Sasaki, an expert docent at the Museum, would love to share his knowledge with you! Join him in “Uprooted: An American Story to hear about his family’s experiences of incarceration during World War II. Steve offers a Q&A as you pass through, or a full guided exhibit tour on topics such as coming to America, life in the incarceration camps, and returning home after WWII. Learn more here.
