"Children are the World's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future."

Greetings from Mr. G
January 10, 2020
Happy New Year! We are excited to begin a new year and a new decade as a vibrant school community where children BLOOM in mind, heart and soul!
Dear St. Rose School Families,
Our New Year got off with a great start with a most generous donation of $48,000 from the Knights of Columbus (Supreme) followed by additional donations from Monsignor Bob and parents in our community. This brings our #Giving Tuesday total to more than $70,000 -- a record! Thanks to all for your support which is a true blessing. We are getting toward the half way mark of our $150,000 goal for the school year and I believe that working together with this shared commitment we will get there!
We are gearing up for Catholic Schools Week which starts on Sunday January 26th with our Open House. Many meaningful activities are planned to celebrate our school community that week -- we look forward to sharing them with you. Please remember to register your child(ren) prior to January 26th to ensure them a spot in the process. You are very important to us -- we want your children here at St. Rose School! However starting on the 26th registration will be open to the public and we can no longer guarantee spots. You can refer to the December 16th email for direct links or go to https://www.stroseschool.com/index.php/admissions/admissions-registration
This year more than any other early registration is critical.
I am pleased to announce that we will be starting a Junior and Advanced Robotics Club on January 17th. Mrs. Connie Carey, mother of Rohan and an electrical engineer with experience in Robotics, will be leading the club. Speaking as someone with a strong STEM background I highly recommend this experience for all students in grades 4-8.
Our classrooms and clubs are in high gear. The Mock Trial team is preparing diligently for their competition later this month. The Advanced Math Club is hard at work on the Gold Level Award. Auditions for our Spring Musical, The Wizard of Oz, will take place next week and our Upper Grade students are getting ready for final exams. If you stop by the Kindergarten classroom you'll see how they have turned their Christmas tree into a Mitten tree as they collect items for people in need. Our students receive a well rounded education.
It is always so nice to gather as a school community for Friday Mass. This is what it's all about -- giving our children a Christ centered education. We enjoy having parents and other family members in attendance as well. Next Friday 3rd Grade will be readers and 4th Grade will lead us in song. We will be filming for the Blooms Benefit video at Mass and throughout that day as well.
After a Summer and Fall of careful deliberation that included listening to the scores of many musicals and consulting with Mr. G and Mrs. B, Mrs. Salustri has chosen The Wizard of Oz for the Spring Musical.
"Ultimately we sing, we dance, we act and delver a beautiful story of hope," said Mrs. Salustri in explaining her final decision about the musical. "I love bringing the Classics to a new generation. Many of these children don't know about The Wizard of Oz so I'm excited for them to go through the process. And it's the music of Harold Arlen which, like the story, is timeless."
Mrs. Salustri said that in working together over the months the cast becomes like a little family. She is delighted to have Mrs. Locke and Mrs. O'Donnell assisting her this year as well as St. Rose School alumnae Siobhan Reidy, Nicole Kolitsas, Isabella Corona and Shayla O'Donnell.
Auditions are open to 4-8th graders and will take place on Friday January 17th starting at 3:15 p.m. Rehearsals will be Tuesday and Thursday afternoons through February with the addition of Fridays beginning in March. There will be 2 performances at Edmond Town Hall on Thursday May 7th.
We hope you had a wonderful, relaxing and peace-filled Christmas and winter break.
We are hitting the ground running in January, and as usual, we will be looking for volunteers to help us make these events and initiatives a success. Please stay tuned for more information as details for Catholic Schools week unfold. One event we do want to make sure you're aware of is the special Sound Tigers game on January 31st dedicated to Catholic Schools week. This is a great opportunity to spend a fun evening with family and friends and cheer on the Sound Tigers! Click here for the flyer.
Do you have experience compiling a database? Laura Moulder is looking for a volunteer to help put together a database for fundraising campaigns. If you think you can help out, please email Laura at "email@example.com".
Finally, it's not too early to ask you to mark your calendars for the next HSA meeting, February 13th. We have many events coming up in the Spring and look forward to sharing details with you at our almost - Spring meeting.
Enjoy the Spring-like weather we're supposed to have this weekend!

Plans for the Blooms Benefit are underway! Get ready for a night of fun and fundraising as we honor Dr. John and Mrs. Nancy Murphy for their dedication to Catholic education.
