Greetings from Mr. G
February 28, 2020
It was good to begin our Lenten journey together as a school family at Mass on Wednesday. Let us all take time to reflect, pray and find ways to show Jesus how much we love and appreciate Him during these next several weeks.
Dear St. Rose School Families,
Congratulations to our Basketball teams! The JV Boys won 2nd place in the parochial league tournament bringing home a big trophy but more importantly they demonstrated good sportsmanship on and off the court. Our girls had a great season. The Varsity boys play in the championship game tomorrow (2/29) at Immaculate,
12:30 p.m. Please go cheer them on if you can. Thanks again to Coaches Canlas, Markowitz and Ortega for their commitment to the teams.
Grades K-4 enjoyed a special treat this week. Author Cynthia Wylie visited to read her book and share many interesting facts about writing a story. The students were actively engaged in the session -- many raised their hands when asked if they'd like to write a book one day. Learning outside the classroom, and emphasizing the love of books, are key components of a dynamic education.
The Invention Convention was a wonderland of innovative ideas to solve everyday problems. I am so impressed with the ingenuity of our 4th and 5th grade students and the poise they showed in presenting their projects. Congratulations to Liam Kirkman,Tomas Almeida, Oscar Nordt, Lela Desta-Liben, Adriana Kari and Jolie Malo, the top 3 winners in grades 4 and 5. I think it was a winning experience for all.
The Blooms Benefit is tomorrow night! We are grateful to our honorees, Dr. John and Mrs. Nancy Murphy, for the many years they spent in our halls building a strong foundation and for the work they continue to do in support of our school, parish and community. I look forward to seeing those of you who are joining us tomorrow. Remember, everyone can be a part of the thermometer challenge -- this night is also about keeping St. Rose School strong for our current students and for those who will come in the future. Please help us reach our goal. You can find a link to the thermometer in this newsletter -- we are all in this together! Thank you.
On Thursday our 8th graders celebrated 100 days until graduation! These are exciting times for our school leaders. It is a joy to be a part of their journey as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives. May God bless them and their families as they work toward the finish line.
We are very happy that Officer Chapman was at school today teaching students in grades 3-8 important social media and internet tips. This is something every parent should know. Click here for more information.
Please continue to pray for Monsignor Bob as he recuperates from his surgery.
Enjoy the weekend!

A BIG SUCCESS
Albert Einstein would be delighted to walk into the Gathering Hall and check out all of the innovative inventions created by St. Rose School 4th and 5th graders. From light up walkers to a stink bug solver to sneaker lace magnets to book blockers and bumpers, soap on the go, a safe soaring pack for airplane travel and so much more the air was charged with possibilities and the students presented their inventions with such poise and conviction.
Following a thorough evaluation by outside judges, the following students have been selected as winners:
Liam Kirkman -- zipper shield
Tomas Almeida -- super laces
Oscar Nordt -- Pro Swing Band
Lela Destin-Liben -- Grocery Cart Step
Adrianna Kari -- Soccer Zip Guard
Jolie Malo -- Sting Bling Gloves
Liam and Lela will go on to the State Invention Convention. Stay tuned for details!
Currently there are two St. Rose School students with pending patents, Emily Braun and Ava Bauco. This is an exceptional educational and life experience for all students.

The Lenten Mission Drive is off to a wonderful start. We are so proud of the children who are giving up some of their favorite things to support schools in Ghana and the needy of our parish and town. Thank you for your generosity.
As we head into March, we are still in need of volunteers to serve on a Nominating Committee for next year's two open Board positions - Vice President and Secretary.
The Nominating Committee is responsible for reviewing (or identifying) interested parties for each open Board position and coming up with a nominating committee slate to vote on. It's an important role in shaping our future HSA Board, and the work begins in March. If you are interested in serving on the nomination committee, or in serving on the HSA Board, please send us an email to email@example.com. The HSA Board is a great way to be involved with the school, and contribute to our overall success as a school community.
We also are still looking for someone to help coordinate the Mother-Son event, which we had earmarked for March. If you are interested in this event, please let us know! We'd love to provide a venue to appeal to all age young men in our SRS community.
Finally, mark your calendars for Bingo, March 20! This particular event is combined with our Knight's popular Lenten Fish Fry - so, you have the makings of a great evening out that is Lent-compliant! What could be better?!
Congratulations to our JV Boys for taking 2nd place in the Parochial League championship game. Great season! Kudos also to our Varsity girls who played mightily this year. Come out and cheer for the Varsity boys who play the championship game at Immaculate tomorrow, 2/29 at 12:30 p.m. Thanks to all of the coaches who gave both time and heart to make this a memorable season for all. GO RAMS!
