Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.
- Mother Teresa
Greetings from Mr. G
October 4, 2019
Every day that we come to school and give our very best to our lessons and our neighbors we are making progress.
Dear St. Rose School Families,
Kindness is spreading in our halls and hearts as students take part in the Macaroni Kids Kindness challenge. And who is the greatest model of this lesson -- Jesus, who reminds us to "Love one another." Living our faith outwardly on a daily basis is one of the greatest blessings we receive in a Catholic school.
We are already six weeks in to the school year. I see how diligently the teachers and students are working and commend their perseverance. Progress reports will be available on the Parent Portal tonight. If you have any trouble accessing them or have questions, please contact the office.
Teachers were engaged in a professional development session this afternoon, gleaning information that is valuable to their ongoing work with your children. We are committed to staying current and providing every student with the tools they need to excel.
Are you ready for the Pumpkin Bowl next Wednesday October 9th? Formerly called the Turkey Bowl, this is a friendly game of flag football between our two 8th grade classes and a wonderful way to join our school community in a fun outdoor activity on a beautiful Fall day. Seventh graders will be our cheerleaders and all other classes can dress down in the color of the team they will be supporting. Please join us -- families, friends and alumni are welcome!
Enjoy your weekend.
Mr. Bardhyl Gjoka
All students in grades 2-8 are invited to register for the 2019-2020 St. Rose School Cheer Team. It is a great opportunity to have fun, improve your cheerleading skills and support your school by representing St. Rose at home basketball games and the end of season Cheer Expo at Immaculate High School. You are sure to make memories that will last a lifetime. REGISTRATIONS ARE DUE MONDAY OCTOBER 7th.Read more here.
All Star Transportation is required by CT DMV to conduct school bus evacuations at least twice per school year. The first drill will take place at St. Rose School on Friday, October 11th when buses arrive in the morning, prior to unloading. Staff will be there to assist drivers. Students will be evacuated through the rear emergency door. Once all students are off, they will be allowed to re-enter the bus to collect their belongings and enter school. This should only take an extra three to four minutes per bus. If it is raining that morning, the drill will be cancelled and the school will be notified of a new date.

VETERAN'S DAY ASSEMBLY
America is the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. It is our privilege and duty to recognize the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. The Knights of Columbus will present an assembly on November 8, 2019 at
1:00 p.m. in the Gathering Hall. Veterans will be recognized in a special ceremony followed by breakout sessions in the classrooms. During the ceremony the winners of the Knights Essay and Poster contests will be announced. All are welcome to join us for this important gathering.
If you have a family member or friend who is a veteran and would like to be a part of this ceremony, please contact Mr. Scott Anders, firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
May God bless our Veterans!
NOTE: WINTER UNIFORMS GO INTO EFFECT OCTOBER 15TH!
On Sunday, October 6 at 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. there will be a Bible Distribution and lesson for all students in the 6th grade. Parents and Guardians are required to attend with your child. It will be held at Holy Innocents building.
If you cannot make it on Sunday you may attend on Monday or Tuesday from
4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
The heartbeat of our school is powered by the amazing activities taking place in all classrooms, Preschool-8th grade, every day. Our teachers and your children make an awesome team!
Just a couple of quick reminders for your calendars - next Friday, we have our Bingo event in the Gathering Hall. We hope you can make it - it's a lot of fun and there are plenty of kids around for your less "Bingo competitive" children to pal around with. We hope to see you there!
Trunk or Treat is coming up quickly thereafter! This event is eagerly anticipated each year, and such a fun evening for the whole family. We will be hosting Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 25, and look forward to sharing a "spooktacular"night of music, treats and fun with you all.
We would appreciate two volunteers who could help us plan and execute the Christmas photo mini-session fundraiser. It's a great opportunity to plan ahead (like we always swear we'll do!) and get those Christmas card photos taken. If you are able to help plan and promote this event, please email us at email@example.com. Thank you!
One of the many perks of 8th grade year is the traditional Turkey Bowl. Starting this year the event will be The Pumpkin Bowl (better weather, less muddy field) and it is slated for Wednesday October 9th at 1:00 PM out on the big field. The teams have been established and 7th graders are working on cheers. All classes in the school will have a dress down that day in their chosen team's color (light blue, orange). We will gather on the sidelines to cheer the teams on and hope as many parents, grandparents and other family members as possible can join us. Alumni welcome too!
Mrs. Petrillo and Mrs. Caterson will be the coaches. Mr. Canlas will referee and Mrs. B will emcee the event. It promises to be a lot of fun. In the event of rain the Pumpkin Bowl will be moved to October 16th, same time, same place.
We look forward to seeing you on the field and if you can't come we promise to take pictures.
We are pleased to be able to offer Before and After school Child care to our families. This is a fee based service that is staffed by trained, caring teachers and staff. Before school care is available starting at 7:00 a.m.; After school care is available from the time of dismissal through 6:00 p.m. Hours may change on holidays and school half days.
If you are interested please contact Mrs. Wong, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Everyone needs to eat and by purchasing gift cards to local grocery stores to do your food shopping you can make a HUGE difference.
Here’s the math . . .
Most stores offer an average 5% rebate to our HSA, so based on one family:
$400/month x 12 months = $4800
That’s a $240 rebate per year for ONE FAMILY!
With all 180 families participating . . .
$240 x 180 = $43,200!!!!!
Could you IMAGINE what we could do with an extra $43,200 that is not costing anyone anything additionally? We are looking to make this number a reality. Read more.
BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS
In honor of the Feast of St. Francis Assisi, the patron Saint of animals, there will be a blessing of animals on the big field behind the church Saturday morning, October 5th, at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome to join this beautiful prayer service.
Good St. Francis, you loved all of God's creatures.
