Thank you to all parents and faculty who attended the HSA meeting last night. I am happy to share that St. Rose School is on solid ground thanks to our continued partnership in your children's learning journey. If you could not attend, click here for the slides.
Dear St. Rose School Families,
am pleased with the accomplishments we have made so far this school year.
We have a balanced budget which puts us in good standing going forward. As you know, $150,000 of this is determined by fundraising. #Giving Tuesday was very successful at $70,000 raised. Our next key event is 2 weeks away -- The Blooms Benefit. We are honoring Dr. John and Mrs. Nancy Murphy whose 4 children walked these halls for more than 15 years. Together with fellow parents the Murphys dedicated countless hours to keeping St. Rose School vibrant so that future families could enjoy the same opportunities. We are all bound by shared values and desires for our children. Please join us to celebrate and support St. Rose School -- RSVPs are due by February 15th. There is a link in the newsletter for online tickets. If you cannot attend, you can sill participate via online giving. Help us reach our $60,000 goal for the night! Thank you.
Other good news is that in pilot assessments St. Rose School students, on average, exceeded the top expected scores. These results are based on performance comparisons from beginning to mid year and we are hopeful that the trend will continue with the next assessment taken in May. We are proud of our students and commend the teachers for preparing them so well.
Congratulations to our 8th grade boys basketball players who were recognized at their last home game Wednesday night. We were delighted to honor them and their parents for years of hard work and school spirit. Thank you for representing St. Rose School so beautifully on and off the court. We will miss you but know that each of you will make a strong impact at the high schools you attend.
I would like to thank the HSA for all of the special treats they provided during Catholic Schools Week and for the energy and commitment to St. Rose School that is so evident in all you do. Last night's meeting was an indication of the shared vision we have for St. Rose School and we are on track for a bright future.
It was beneficial to have School Officer Chapman at the meeting to address social media issues that are a reality in today's world. He provided many helpful insights to parents and I am pleased to let you know that he will be at school February 28th to speak to grades 3-8 (in age related sessions) about this important topic. This is not mandatory but highly recommended as he told us that it is so important for parents and teachers to be "in the know" about the interactions our children have in this medium. Stay tuned for details about February 28th.
We are on the verge of an extra long weekend. School will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Enjoy the extra family time and if you are traveling be safe. We will look forward to seeing everyone back in our halls Wednesday February 19th.
Please keep Monsignor Bob in your prayers as he recovers from his surgery.
Mr. Bardhyl Gjoka
Nuts & Bolts
Car Walk -- please arrive no later than

The word is out -- the Carry All Caddy is a must-have household item. The sturdy, sharp looking bag with a rooster/heart logo designed by SRS alumna and parent Carolyn Del Rossi is ideal for the grocery store, beach and sporting events. This bag sits perfectly in a shopping cart and travels well in the car. As an added bonus it folds flat when not in use. It's durability, ease of use and style make a worthwhile investment.
Check out displays in the Main School vestibule and Preschool Lobby. Ask your friends how they like it! Proceeds go to the Blooms Fund.Orders can be placed using the attached form. Complete and drop off with payment to Mrs. Wong Attn. Carry-All-Caddy. Questions? Email SRSCarryAllCaddy@yahoo.com
Stay tuned for information about classroom contests!
Lent is a time of reflection and sacrifice. It begins with Ash Wednesday. We will attend mass as a school family on Wednesday February 26th so therefore there will not be a school mass on Friday February 28th.
Our annual Mission Drive will take place during lent -- all funds raised will help schools in Ghana and the needy in our parish and town. Thank you for your support. God Bless.
Thank you to all who came out last night for the HSA Parent meeting. We were delighted to see so many of you there. For those unable to attend, you can find our slides attached here. We are pleased to note that we are at plan for our budget and fund-raising initiatives. Many events are coming up and as always, we need your help to make them a success (and in some instances, to have them at all). Please review the slides and our calendar; if you are able to assist in any way, we'd love to hear from you - firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last evening we had a visit from one of Newtown's resource officers, Officer Chapman, who gave a brief overview of social media use among middle schoolers and older elementary students. Knowing that social media is a concern to all parents (and there are more than a few of us who don't feel confident in our knowledge), we have invited Scott Driscoll back to St. Rose school on April 2. Mr. Driscoll reviews the latest sites that are attracting our children, shares potential dangers, and equips parents to address any concerns they may have. Please make a note of it in your calendar - this is a not-to-be-missed event!
Finally - don't forget Bingo tonight! Doors open at 5:45pm and the games begin at 6:30pm. We would LOVE (pun intended!) to see you there this Valentine's evening.
We wish you a terrific long weekend, and if you're traveling, a safe journey.
Way to go Rohan Carey, James Doering, Kaelen Schmitt, Jonathan Voskov and Joshua Schumacher! Our 8th grade basketball players and their parents were honored at a special ceremony Wednesday night in recognition of their last home game and of all their years playing for St. Rose School. The tributes read by their 7th grade teammates emphasized the special bonds these players share both on and off the court. We are proud of their accomplishments and especially for their good sportsmanship. These players will be missed but know that St. Rose School will always be their home court.
The Parochial League playoffs and tournament are up next. Stay tuned for details and come support the RAMS!
GETTING ON TRACK...
Spring is coming and kids in K-8 love to RUN! Track is such an awesome program that helps students build focus, skills, stamina and so much more. Many of our students go on to run in high school and even college. We hope to bring this program to full tilt again but we do need help. Currently we are seeking a coach and assistant coaches for grades 3-8 and an assistant coach for grades K-2. We can work around schedules. Please contact coordinator Lisa Jackson, email@example.com or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help. Thanks.
