SJC Takes Steps against Racism
Fr. Ed Hallinan joined other faith leaders Aug. 1 at a Black Lives Matter rally in Ridley Township, then spoke about the event after all Masses last weekend. See the story in CatholicPhilly.

Meanwhile, SJC has launched a Joint Ministry on Racial Justice with St. Martin de Porres Parish. The initiative -- the first of its kind in the Archdiocese -- grew from the two parishes' Town Hall on Racial Healing in June. Composed of five parishioners from each parish, the group held its first meeting July 29. Members will explore opportunities to promote racial healing and fight racism in our communities.
CYO Suspends Fall Sports
Archdiocesan CYO officials announced this week that inter-parish fall sports would be suspended until further notice. Athletic activities within a parish may be considered at the pastor's discretion.
At SJC, the CYO leadership will be exploring the feasibility of offering limited practices, scrimmages, skills clinics, and games for parish youth this fall. Health and safety considerations will be paramount in making any decisions. Updates will be provided as available.

PREP Registration Reminders
Registration is underway for our 2020-21 Parish Religious Education Program (PREP). All registration is online. This year's new program combines home instruction with monthly classroom meetings.

Parents, please note:

  • Registration is required each year for all PREP students, even those previously enrolled, beginning in first grade.

  • Children may not skip PREP grades. Students who take an extended absence from PREP will resume the program where they left it. For any special needs, please contact the PREP Office before Sept. 1.

  • Registration and payment for all families is due Sept. 1. This is a firm deadline. Due to COVID safety requirements, placement cannot be guaranteed after this date.

Wednesday: Youth Support Homebound
St. John's Youth Group is planning its first service project of the year: making care baskets for our homebound parishioners. We will gather (masked and distanced) from 6 to 7:30 pm Wednesday, Aug. 12, outside the Stevenson Center to reconnect, have a snack and assemble our baskets.

Regular Youth Group meetings will resume from 5:30 to 7 pm every other Thursday starting Aug. 20.

Youth Group welcomes all youth in grades 6-12. Please email Youth Minister Caroline Tamaccio if your child is interested in participating this year, so that we can share our new health and safety guidelines.

Aug. 18: Please Give Blood
We still need a few more donors for our second summer blood drive, scheduled for 10 am to 7 pm Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the Lower Church Hall. We are holding this additional drive at the request of the American Red Cross, due to the extreme need for blood in our community.

Appointments are required; use sponsor code st john or ZIP code 19086. Donors must wear masks.
