Youth & Young Adult Well-being

Grant Opportunity Opens July 1

Too many vulnerable children and young adults in our region face challenges that impede their ability to thrive and reach their full potential. Whether it be poverty, abuse, neglect, or lack of access to healthcare, education, or community support resources, these obstacles cast a shadow over their lives, leaving them in need of support.

We have prioritized the lives of at-risk children and young adults in our effort to create generational change. We plan to partner with area nonprofits and governmental agencies and invest in their future to significantly move the needle on this work.

Agencies interested in applying for up to $100,000 are invited to use the links below to learn more about this grant opportunity and reserve a seat at an upcoming information session. If you cannot attend one of these sessions, please review the application details and plan to submit your pre-qualifying questions between July 1 - 22.

Now + Next Spring Cohort Graduation

Now + Next's fifth cohort graduated earlier this spring after spending six weeks immersed in Building Relationships, Coaching, and the Six Dimensions of Organizations, to name a few topics covered in our exclusive capacity-building program designed by and offered to Western North Carolina leaders of today and tomorrow. In addition to the value of the curriculum, graduates said they were excited about the connections made over the course of the program.

Spring graduates are (seated from left) Corey Holland of HIGHTS; Allison Greenfield, a recent graduate of Western Carolina University; Mary Jane Lucas of Circles of Cashiers-Glenville; and T.J. Smith of International Friendship Center. Standing (from left) are Gretta Worley of HERE in Jackson County; Dr. Frederick Buskey, our N+N facilitator; Randi Neff of Southwestern Community College; Sabrena Davis of Jackson County Department of Social Services; Nicole Hinebaugh of MountainWise; and Toni Pasquariello of Legal Aid.

Access to Cohort 6 (Summer, July-August) is available via a waiting list, while a handful of Cohort 7 (Fall, September-October) seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Now + Next Alumni Shenanigans

N+N

Following our spring cohort graduation, some 25 N+N alumni gathered for a meet and greet in Franklin. Representatives from every cohort and the original design team were in attendance. In addition to lots of laughter, making new connections, and meeting up with old friends, the group even managed to absorb new leadership development ideas under Dr. Buskey's direction, like how the Pipeline Challenge taught them to work together to problem-solve. We were especially thankful to learn that N+N grads continue to credit the program with significant professional growth.

Celebrating With Our Partners

Michelle Shiplet (above), executive director of Graham Revitalization Economic Action Team (GREAT), shared plans and aspirational photos for a greenway project being considered for downtown Robbinsville; while Marianne Martinez (below), executive director of Vecinos, hoisted a ceremonial shovelful of soil at the State Employees Credit Union Community Health Hub groundbreaking in Franklin.
