ST. JAMES IMMIGRANT ASSISTANCE (SJIA) helps families reunite Immigrants must often leave family members behind in their home country and are separated during the long process to become a U.S. citizen. Lawful permanent residents are able to petition for certain family members to join them in the U.S., but they often must wait years, even decades, for a visa to become available. However, when a permanent resident becomes a U.S. citizen, there is no wait time for certain qualifying family members. After completing a rigorous vetting and interview process, these family members can join their loved ones more quickly. As a permanent resident, Juanita (not her real name) petitioned for her husband to join her in the U.S. Their home country was very dangerous. During the stressful wait, Juanita became eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship. SJIA provided her with the needed legal and tutoring support to be successful at her interview. Once she became a U.S. citizen, her husband became immediately eligible for a visa. Soon he was able to join Juanita in the U.S. They were relieved and overjoyed to be safely reunited after their long separation. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a U.S. Citizen, we can help. ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU An older man with chronic pain lives on a small disability check. He was very happy to move into an apartment from a temporary tiny home village the previous month. Unfortunately, he fell behind on rent because he had little advance notice of the move and had just helped his daughter with money for her own housing. He called the Helpline (206-767-6449 or apply online https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). His apartment is nearly empty except for a bed. In addition to helping with rent, volunteers were able to give him resources to find household supplies and furniture. Information, Blake Steller 907-244-6683 or blsteller@gmail.com.
ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL'S FAITH FRIENDS is a blend of our original Faith Mentor faith formation program, which we began in 2014, and a new adaptive catechesis program. The program’s goal is to give children and teens ages 7-17 with learning differences , physical, cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities access to parish community, social events and faith formation. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Faith Friends program is the Faith Mentor/Faith Peer program. Faith Mentors are youth and Faith Peers are young adults who have chosen to live out their discipleship and share some of their personal time in dedication and service to the goals of the program. After completing an intake process and training, these Faith Mentors volunteer at various monthly Faith Friend meetings and other group activities Faith Peers can also serve as a Faith Mentor by being paired with a Faith Friend.
VISIT THE CATHEDRAL COLUMBARIUM A columbarium is a cemetery for the reverent burial of cremated remains. The way we honor the mortal remains of our deceased family members and friends is a reflection of the faith we profess in the Nicene Creed: we believe in the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. The columbarium is open for prayer whenever the Cathedral is open. It is a beautiful place to visit and pray for all our beloved dead. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.
