Urban Wood Network Leadership solicits applicants to serve
on the
Urban Wood Network Board of Directors
The Interim Board of Directors for the Urban Wood Network is inviting applications for up to 11 open seats on the UWN Board of Directors (BOD). We’re thrilled to invite urban wood stakeholders to become active leaders and visionaries to guide this first-of-its-kind organization to help take the urban wood sector to new heights. Over the course of the past several years, the Urban Wood Network has been operating as a non-profit program in service to its Mission and members – To inform, collaborate, and connect to build community, business, and consumer confidence in the urban wood industry Recently, UWN was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is focused on establishing sound governance principles, leadership and staff to support this growing organization and improve services to its members.
UWN has already received some great applications for the Board of Directors but we wanted to provide more time for Board recruitment. The extended deadline for submitting applications to join the Board of Directors must be submitted by October 31, 2023 via the 2023 Board of Directors application form at this link
We are seeking engaged urban wood stakeholders and people with non-profit development and management expertise from across the United States to serve on our Board of Directors:
● All positions on the Board of Directors are currently open (including officer positions such as Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Director at-large)
● Applicants must either be current UWN members or committed to becoming a UWN member should they be invited to join the Board of Directors
● In accordance with our Urban Wood Network, Inc Bylaws, adopted 7/19/2023, a review committee composed of current UWN members and leaders who are not applying to serve on the Board of Directors, will review and recommend a minimum of 5 Board members and a maximum of 11 to the current Interim UWN Board of Directors for approval. In addition, an advisory role for a student representative position is available
● Board members will serve for a minimum of two years (refer to UWN Bylaws for additional information). The following is the approximate time commitment for board service; this will most likely evolve over the course of your term on the board and at the discretion of the new BOD:
- Monthly 1-1.5 hour virtual BOD meetings
- Volunteer leadership in your particular BOD role, which may include serving as a committee chair and managing a volunteer committee of board members and members of UWN. Committee meetings are held outside of monthly BOD meetings and established by each committee to support the work of the committee
● As noted above, in addition to seeking applicants that have a passion for urban wood and urban forestry, we are seeking board members with experience and an understanding of non-profit organizations and governance at this critical time of the Network’s establishment and development. Applicants should also have an interest in collaboration with a team of volunteers and contract staff to advance a newly established non-profit organization toward long-term health in governance and member services.
