Annual Meeting for Clarksville Food Pantry Board of Directors, Church and Community Volunteers and Interested Citizens

The Annual Clarksville Food Pantry Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 21rst, 2024, 3:00pm at the Clarksville Community Center, 103 Woodland Dr, Clarksville, VA 23927.

We invite all to join us.

Non-food Item of the Month

Holiday Gift Cards

Once again, the Clarksville Food Pantry will be offering $25 gift cards from Food Lion to assist families with their holiday meals. The gift cards will be distributed with the November and December #1 pantry boxes. There is a limit of one gift card each month per household.

314 Gift Cards were distributed to our neighbors in need

during the month of November.

Changes to Meat Distribution

Due to increases in families served and limited freezer space, the Pantry Board made the difficult decision to only distribute frozen meat with the number 1 pantry boxes. Those families who also receive a number 2 or number 2 box, will receive addition protein through canned tuna and canned chicken when available. The packing lists in the Volunteer Handbook and the communication board have been updated to reflect this change.

Holiday Without Hunger Campaign

As food insecurity in the United States increases, Food Lion Feeds launched its annual Holidays Without Hunger campaign to help families access the nutritious food that everyone deserves.

This year's Holiday Without Hunger campaign ran from November 8, 2023 - December 12, 2023. The generous support from the Clarksville Community blessed the Clarksville Food Pantry and neighbors in need with 510 Food Lion Feeds Holiday boxes. Thank you to Food Lion, the Clarksville Community and to all who supported this effort!

A Huge Shout Out:

The Clarksville Food Pantry has benefited from relationships with Feed More and Clarksville's Moore's Produce Stand to secure potatoes for our neighbors!

Fact or Fiction:

Sweet Potatoes are Healthier than White Potatoes

✓TRUE

But not by much! This is always a "spud"-tacular debate. The sweet potato edges out the white potato mainly because it contains more Vitamin A, slightly more fiber and may cause a slightly smaller spike in glucose levels.

But don't peel away so soon! The good old white potato packs a punch of potassium and Vitamin C. It's also a good source of resistant starch which is starch that fills you up longer. Of course, these numbers change depending on the way we choose to eat them- tots and fries of either variety are less nutritious than either just baked with skin. It basically comes down to taste- which do you prefer?
