Heroes on Ice: Citizens Honoured for Life-Saving Actions at Honeywood Arena

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, what began as a joyful first day back on the ice quickly turned into a moment of crisis at the Honeywood Arena when one of the players suffered a sudden heart attack. In a situation where every second counted, the quick thinking and life-saving actions of fellow players turned a potential tragedy into a story of hope and heroism.

Thanks to the swift response and teamwork of three local men, the outcome was a happy one. On November 5th, Council and Dufferin Paramedic Services proudly recognized:

  • Patrick De Brou of Melancthon;
  • Andrew Meunier of Melancthon; and
  • Jamie Horne of Shelburne.

These individuals acted without hesitation, drawing on their knowledge, experience, and courage to provide critical aid until emergency services arrived. Their actions exemplify the strength of community and the importance of being prepared to help others in times of need.

You don't need a uniform to be a hero and save a life. Learn CPR, know where your nearest AED is, and always call 911 in an emergency.

  • First Aid gives you the tools to act confidently in emergencies.
  • AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) can restart a heart in cardiac arrest — and are designed for use by anyone.
  • Calling 911 ensures professional help is on the way. Don’t wait. Every second counts

Mulmur extends its deepest gratitude to Patrick, Andrew, and Jamie. Your bravery and compassion are an inspiration to us all.

It's Time to Prepare for Winter

Winter storms or extreme cold can occur suddenly and last for multiple days. Be prepared this winter.

  • Prepare your emergency kit for your home in advance and be prepared for power outages. Families should be prepared to be self-sustaining for at least three days. Kits should include practical items such as drinking water, food, cash, and a portable radio. However, they should also include items that are unique to your own families’ needs. This could include baby items, medical prescriptions, pet food, etc.
  • Prepare your vehicle for winter weather and create an emergency kit for your vehicle. Keep the gas tank full. Always check local weather conditions before heading out on the road. Car Emergency Kit Suggestions can be found here.
  • Carbon monoxide kills: NEVER use a generator, BBQ, propane inside an enclosed area. Learn more about generator safety here

Green Tip: Check Your Furnace

Your furnace is a core component of your house. It keeps you warm during those chilly autumn nights! Make your home more sustainable by optimizing your furnace and vents.

Cleaning and inspecting your furnace on a yearly basis can make sure that your furnace is working properly, and that heat is getting to all parts of your home.

Routine maintenance helps your furnace work smarter, not harder, and can diminish unnecessary home energy costs!
