Jamaica School Receive Donation

Mt. Alvernia High School, Mt. Alvernia Preparatory School and Chetwood Memorial Primary School in Montego Bay, Jamaica, have received a $1million donation as part of the schools’ centennial celebration.

The money will go toward refurbishing the high school auditorium, adding a second floor for the prep school auditorium, and building a pavilion at Chetwood Primary.

Garvin Atkinson, the principal of Chetwood Primary, thanked God for the donation on behalf of the three schools, which were established in 1925 by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany.

BayCare Recognized

Great Place to Work® and Fortune magazine have selected BayCare Health System for the 2025 Fortune Best Workplaces in Health Care™ list, ranking No. 22 in the large category.

This marks BayCare’s ninth consecutive year earning a spot on this prestigious national list — where it stands out as the highest-ranked health system in the West Central Florida region.

Earning a spot means that BayCare Health System is one of the best companies to work for in the country.

“To be named one of the best workplaces in the health care industry for nine straight years is not only an incredible honor, but a powerful validation of our people-first approach to health care. I’m so proud of our team members for making BayCare the best place to work, receive and provide care,” said BayCare President and CEO Stephanie Conners.

BayCare’s recognition on the Fortune Best Workplaces in Health Care™ list adds to a growing list of national and regional workplace accolades that reflect its strong culture and commitment to team members. In 2025 alone, BayCare was ranked No. 17 on the PEOPLE® Companies that Care list and earned Culture Excellence Awards from Energage and Top Workplaces in key areas such as Leadership, Innovation, Work-Life Flexibility, and Purpose & Values. BayCare was also named to the Tampa Bay Times Top Workplaces list for the 11th consecutive year, to the Fortune Best Workplaces for Women™ list, and was recognized by USA Today as a Top Workplace in the USA for the second year in a row.

Baby Boy Annan is believed to be among the biggest babies – if not the biggest baby – ever born at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South. Welcomed to the world on September 3, he weighed in at 13 pounds, 15 ounces.

Canticle Farm recently hosted a program on “Approachable Sustainability” with Dr. Karie Altman, assistant professor of biology and environmental studies at St. Bonaventure University.

Dr. Altman is trying to spread the message that sustainability is not an all or nothing experience, explaining that people don’t have to stop eating meat completely and become vegan; or completely change the types of clothes they wear; or eliminate fossil fuels. But everyone can do something.

The deadline to send letters of intent for Allegany Franciscan Ministries’ Fall Grant Cycle is Thursday, September 25.

AFM’s ACOR Grant program supports community-driven projects that improve health, wellness and quality of life in underserved neighborhoods.

Grants focus on improving health, wellness and quality of life in marginalized communities. Applicant organizations must have an active and direct affiliation with the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany or Allegany Franciscan Associates (i.e. where the FSA members/associates are present as sponsor, trustee, staff, or volunteer), or your organization must be a ministry of Trinity Health.

ACOR Grant awards are for a one-year term and may total up to $10,000. The application process involves two-steps: an LOI application and a full grant application. The LOI application deadline is September 25, 2025.

ACOR Grant Fall Cycle is Open!

Allegany Franciscan Ministries is accepting applications for its ACOR Grant Program Fall Cycle. ACOR Grants provide short-term support to nonprofit community-based organizations and projects that extend the mission and vision of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany.
