We ask you to please send messages of appreciation to them for their sacrifices and service while faithfully tending to our flock.
Preschool Fundraiser
Ends Oct. 18

In light of critical missed revenue from this year's Fall GUMP Consignment Sale, former GUMP parent Sarah Van Orman is hosting a Beautycounter + GUMP Fundraiser. Sarah will donate all profits from this fundraiser back to the school to help fund 2020-21 GUMP programs. The last day is Sun., Oct. 18. Please click here to read full details for this fundraiser.
Stockley Gardens Fall Arts Festival will be virtual this year. The SGAF will be October 17 - 18, 2020 and is the Hope House Foundation’s biggest fundraiser. To get more information, click here.

Because the festival is virtual, GUMC will not hold its fall, used book sale. However, we continue to collect book donations.
Coronavirus Pandemic

Pastor Melody shares that we are not alone and will get through this together. We are encouraged to engage God and one another during this time of isolation using the church's social media, and through virtual worship and small groups.

Join Pastor Melody in daily prayer for the healing of our world. Click here for a prayer resource she shares from Bishop Sharma Lewis of the VA UMC.
End Racism

The United Methodist Church has stated that we will no longer remain silent nor complicit about racist acts against African Americans but we must act now to become anti-racist individuals and churches! We are asked to pray for this, as well as, all persons of color who suffer at the hands of injustice, oppression, and white supremacy.

Before You Call
the Cops

Kate Gharib, the granddaughter of the late Rev. William Richard “Bill” Fisher, has created a short but powerful video. In "Before You Call the Cops," Kate, a young white woman, showcases nine African American students from her community.

Memorial Songwriting
Free workshop Thurs., Oct. 22

Ghent Church community’s Tina Micula invites those who have lost someone in their life to a FREE Zoom workshop on this upcoming Thurs., Oct. 22, 7 to 9 p.m. Participants will write a group song to honor those individuals. No musical experience or talent needed. Please bring a picture of your loved one to the virtual session! Space is limited so please sign up today for the workshop by clicking here. For more information, email Tina.

Tina is a professional singer/songwriter and founder of Honor a Life. Joining her for the workshop is Transitional Life Coach, Brennyn Molloy, of the House of Compassionate Gratitude. Recently, Tina unexpectedly lost her beloved sister. She found that writing a song about what their relationship meant to her helped to channel her grief. Tina feels inspired to help others through the same therapeutic process.
The rescheduled VA Annual Conference session will be live streamed and will take place on Sat., Oct. 31 from 9am to 1:30pm. Pastor Melody and our church representative, Russ Evett, are voting members of this session. Anyone who wishes to view the session can access it at https://livestream.com/vaumc. In addition, Pastor Melody, Gary Bonnewell, and Russ Evett are representing our church at the virtual annual Elizabeth River district conference on Sat., Oct. 24.

Please be in prayer for our church representatives as they vote on the business of our district and conference.
A Prayer for Civility in a Divisive World

Frequently Asked Questions related to COVID-19 restrictions
Are we able to gather and worship in person? Our preschool classes are able to gather this fall, operating under the safety guidelines of the VA UMC and Social Services. Otherwise, we are continuing to worship and minister to each other and our community online. We appreciate your prayers, patience, and understanding as we do our part in curbing the spread of COVID-19. We can't wait until we can all be together again!

How can I get in touch with church staff? Our church staff are continuing to work from home and only come to the church building on an as needed basis. To contact church staff, click here to access their email addresses, or call the church office at 757-622-2843 and leave a voice mail. Our voice mail is monitored, in general, Monday through Friday. Messages will be returned as soon as possible.

How may I offer a tithe or gift? We understand that these are uncertain times for most of us financially, but we want to offer the opportunity for us all to continue to fully participate in worship through the offering of a tithe or gift. Click here to learn of the various ways to give, including access to our online giving portal and instructions on online giving from your bank. Also, you may drop off checks through the mail slot at our Raleigh Ave. entrance. For assistance, contact the church office.
Jesus is for everyone. No exceptions.
