Welcome to Our Next Decade!

Can you feel it? The humming vibration from this past weekend's events celebrating ISD-DC's 30th anniversary? What a weekend it was. Our Champagne & Sweets concert was a magical music experience presented by some of our amazingly talented ISD family members. And Sunday's celebration service truly honored where we as a spiritual church and community have come from, and sent us soaring into our next decade with some powerful prayers, moving music, and, of course a wonderful homily by our founder and spiritual advisor Rev. James De Biasio. You can listen to his homily from Sunday here. Check out ISD-DC's Facebook page to see pictures from the wonderful weekend.

Many passionate and dedicated ISD family members made this weekend possible, and I once again want to acknowledge Rev. Patricia Makin for her tireless efforts to organize the concert, as well as Rev. James De Biasio, who returned from his two-week trip and not only wrote his lovely homily, but dove right into organizing Sunday's Celebration Service, beautifying the sanctuary, and coordinating all of us ministers to rededicate ourselves to the congregation and members during the Celebration Service. Also a huge thank you to the performers from the concert, who generously shared their time and talents for this wonderful event: Nate Mayfield; Lyriel Claire; Diana Isabel Aedo; the Cindi Martin Trio (Cindi Martin, Michael Garrahan, Carl Banner); and Joe Rossi, who was accompanied by Alex Tang on piano.

But it is the work of two tireless ISD family members who deserve a thunderous applause and a standing ovation for their pivotal roles in making ISD's 30th anniversary weekend possible. D'Lynne St. Pierre and Barbara Zill worked long and loving hours weeks before the events to refresh and reinvigorate the entry way to the church. They painstakenly painted the entire entrance and the hall the way down the stairs leading to the Fellowship Hall. They meticulously moved our Giving Tree from downstairs onto the entry wall where it has now come to life as a way to lovingly support our Spiritual Home. They moved in some beautiful new furniture and carpeting, making the marvelous makeover complete. And it looks gorgeous! Then, after all of that work was done, they were the culinary queens who catered BOTH the Champagne and Sweets reception following Saturday's concert, AND the reception following Sunday's Service. I cannot thank them enough for these labors of unconditional love.

And now, we enthusiastically move on into our next decade with lots more fun events to cultivate our spiritual development  and enrichment. Tuesday evening, we continue our "Metaphysics and the Bible" series with Metaphysical Perspectives of the New Testament, which, like its predecessor class focusing on the Old Testament, takes a deeper look into the metaphysical meanings of some of the new Testament's most well-known stories, including the Gospels. The class runs May 10, 17, 24 and 31.

Wednesday evening, May 11, please join us in the stillness for our Evening Meditation. The sanctuary is quiet and candlelit, and the atmosphere is peaceful and contemplative as we take a silent mid-week meditative journey together. It's the perfect way to transition into the later part of the week!

Class two of Astrology: The Map to Knowing You, led by instructor James Moran, continues on Thursday, May 12. James is a yogi, astrological counselor and artist, and his peaceful energy and warm spirit had class participants enthralled at last week's first session. The class runs May 12, 19 and 25.

On Saturday afternoon, May 14, we'll have a very special treat -- a channeled experience with DZAR, presented by Mary and Gary O'Brien, who hail from Australia. DZAR (pronounced ZAR) is a channeled Energy of Compassion sought out by people from all around the world for the insights and guidance they share. They are an expression of the creative consciousness that pervades our universe. Channeled by bestselling authors Gary and Mary O'Brien since 2008, they work with groups and individuals to create changes in their lives that bring more joy and a stronger connection to their Souls, to other people and to the Earth itself.

Later that day, we'll continue with our "psychic Saturday" as we host our bi-monthly Psychic Fair, with appointments being taken at 6:30 p.m. and readings beginning at 7. It is a day of lots of exciting psychic energy that you don't want to miss!

Sunday afternoon, following our Celebration Service, we'll have our Spring Wellness Expo. Come and enjoy a "healing energy tune-up" offered by one of our wonderful wellness practitioners. You may like what you experience so much you'll want to join the wellness team by participating in our 2016 Healing and Wellness Certification program, which begins in June. This month-long series of classes and workshops will help you tap into your own natural healing abilities, and become a certified healer with ISD-DC.

Our retreat is fast approaching! Have you made your reservations yet?  This year's retreat is called Metaphysical Magic, and once again, we are partnering with Takoma Metaphysical Chapel for a weekend full of events and fun May 27 - 30.
