This week
Ruth
It has been a mad dash for this edition. We have the school holiday program ready, but I've only finished the first few events ready for booking.

Check out our Events and Programs page of our website for full details of what is happening in the Libraries. I'll be adding a couple more early next week.

The two I would like to particularly point out are:

Science and Creativity with author Charlotte Barkla
Think science and creativity don’t mix? Think again! In this session, kids will be guided through a series of story starters and writing prompts, designed to get their creative juices flowing. Charlotte will also discuss the process she used in writing and publishing her science-themed book, Edie’s Experiments. For ages 7-10 years.
Tuesday 7 July, 10.30am
Online via Zoom
Free, bookings essential, phone 8372 5100 or book online via Eventbrite.

Drawing Dragons:
Digital Illustration with Lauren Mullinder
Join local illustrator Lauren Mullinder for a digital illustration workshop all about dragons! You will have the opportunity to watch some instructional videos, send Lauren your drawing and receive personalised feedback via video link. For ages 7+ years.
Thursday 16 July, 2 - 3 pm
Online via Zoom
Free, bookings essential, phone 8372 5100 or book online via Eventbrite.

We will also be having a couple of special Live streamed Storytimes and for the first time both a live-streamed Babytime and a live-streamed Wriggletime.

Don't forget the Mexican Cooking event with Scoffed (see above at the top of the eNewsletter). This is part of our school holiday program as well. We have some extra goodies to go with that one, too. Keep an eye on our blog and Facebook for a couple of extra yummy how to cook videos from this fantastic team.

There will be a Winter Reading Club. If you've participated in our Summer Reading Club in the past, here's your opportunity to participate in a short club over the school holidays.

And the Master Building Challenge will be continued with a special school holiday challenge!

So keep an eye out for all these wonderful events. Full details will be available on our website as soon as possible.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

I was hunting for videos on New Zealand on YouTube the other day. I have a fascination with their geology and pretty much everything else about the country at the moment. My Hubby mentioned that during our period of home schooling, my youngest had a project on New Zealand and he came across a channel called Geography Now.
The channel has a fun take on basic geography by country but at the same time offers good basics to spark interest in various topics.

Videos are broken up into segments. One of my favourites is towards the end of each video, the Friendzone, and discusses some very basic relations between the highlighted country.

As with all fact based information, check the date the video was made and always cross reference the information with a reliable source or two if using for an assignment. For example, the video on Australia is fun, but a few years older than the one on New Zealand and it shows.

Good entertainment with some education thrown in. Totally my jam. Four out of Five stars.

Storytime Online
This Storytime was recorded during a live stream on Tuesday 23 June, 2020. Karyn and Jake read Five Little Ducks illustrated by Penny Ives and said some favourite rhymes as well.

Our next Storytime Live will be streamed on Facebook, 2.30pm, Thursday 2 July. Tune in to interact with our amazing children's team. This time we will be reading stories about birthday parties and singing some songs too!

Collect a craft pack in the Libraries and access the instructions and video on how to create your card at Red Ted Art.

If you can't make it at 2.30pm, Facebook will keep the video and you can watch it at any time afterwards. Also, later in the week, we will upload a HD copy to our YouTube channel as we dual record the session.

Babytime
Welcome to our online session of Babytime. This episode includes songs to sing in the morning or when baby has just woken up.

We’re reaching out to parents of babies 0-12 months, and inviting you to sit down for 10mins with your baby on your lap and share some songs with us. The actions and movements also encourage your baby’s motor development and balance. Our online sessions for babies and toddlers are designed to give you a sample of our on-site sessions and encourage early literacy, music and movement in your own home.

The videos are released on our YouTube channel on Friday mornings at 10.30am and they feature the familiar faces of our Youth and Children's Team.

Subscribe to this eNewsletter for a weekly update on our services, or alternatively for our videos, you can also subscribe to our YouTube channel where we offer videos for all ages.
