OUR SURROGATE FATHER

po

oThough he was God,

he did not think of equality with God

    as something to cling to.

Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;

he took the humble position of a slave

and was born as a human being.

When he appeared in human form,

he humbled himself in obedience to God

and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Philippians 2:6-8, NLTigu

"Thank you for stepping in during those formative years of my life when my father was not able to be there."

This was part of a fathers' day note I sent earlier this month to a man I have always considered a surrogate father.

What is the definition of a surrogate father? According to the following definition: What is a Surrogate Father? | Healthfully

The most common use of "surrogate father" refers to a man who is not the biological, adoptive or stepfather, but who serves as a father figure. The surrogate father might be an older sibling, uncle, romantic partner to the mother, family friend or some other male figure who provides some measure of childcare, love, guidance, discipline, financial support or paternalistic companionship.

I thank God for surrogate fathers. Those men in our lives who stepped in as father figures and provided guidance, counsel, discipline and financial support. Those men who loved and helped us grow into the men and women God created us to be. Those men who sacrificed their time, talent and money to ensure our needs were met.

Did you know Jesus Christ was one of those men? The Bible states that when God needed him the most, he chose to give up his divine privileges, rights and power, took the humble position of a slave and died on a cross so that we could live our lives victoriously as his children.

"Thank you, Jesus for stepping in when we needed you the most!"

Sharing the Word,

Jeaninne

Today's Prayer: Father, thank you for your son's willingness to step in when I needed him the most to be a father figure for me. Amen.
