Weatherization team WOWS!

A note of thanks from Doug...

"I wanted to take this opportunity to praise this agency for a great job weatherizing my home. I am a disabled individual collecting social security and Medicare, but I do not take any of that or any benefits that I receive for granted. I am very grateful for all the benefits I receive and specifically the work recently performed on my home through the winterization department of BCOC.

When I first applied, I did not expect the amount of services that I were to receive. My home was definitely very cold in the winter despite running my furnace and trying to weather strip doors and windows. A friend had told me about the winterization program offered through BCOC and I applied with the hope that I could receive assistance in improving my home's comfort during the winter. Everyone that I spoke with at BCOC was very polite and helpful - specifically Julia, and after being introduced to Nick, my weatherization coordinator, I was very impressed with his professionalism and the hard work that he put into my case. He never stopped trying to determine additional services that would best benefit my home, and he made me feel very comfortable when visiting my home.

My finances are very limited and my social security payments barely cover my mortgage and other bills. It would not have been possible for me to pay for these home improvements myself and I'm very grateful for the work that I received. I was never made to feel a burden or expense to the county or state and was treated overall very respectfully. During the entire process I developed a few significant health problems and I was in the hospital for a week. This made it difficult for Nick to keep in touch with me, and I greatly appreciate his patience during that whole time.

Once again, I would like to praise BCOC for their generous assistance and their professional manners. I do not take any benefits that I receive for granted and I am proud to be an American and thankful for the blessings and benefits that we have, this assistance to me and my home being one personal example."

There are two main types of Weatherization help for homeowners and renters available through BCOC.

Weatherization services facilitate home repairs and energy conservation projects that reduce the utility costs for people on fixed and low incomes.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides grants for fuel and free heater repair during the heating season.

Impact:

In the last fiscal year, BCOC assisted 349 households with energy-saving measures. Energy bills were reduced, home comfort was increased, and there were environmental benefits and long-term savings for families.

Poverty Simulation with St. Mary Medical Center and Woodside Church

We Need You to Join

our Poverty Simulation Committee

We are forming a committee to help us provide our Poverty Simulations throughout the year. We run four simulations a year, each one in a different location in Bucks County. Committee members would help prepare and organize the kit 4-5 times per year at our Doylestown office and have the opportunity to participate as "resource center staff" during simulations. The first committee meeting will likely take place in early September.
