A message from the executive director

Our work at BRHP starts with housing, but it doesn't end there. As race conscious housing advocates, we know that addressing inequity requires a holistic approach. A quality life is predicated on where you live, the education you receive, your access to affordable healthcare, the income potential of job opportunities you have, your ability to build wealth, and more. While we continue to expand opportunity for thousands of families through housing mobility, we are also working with partners to tackle issues of health (our Healthy Children Voucher Demonstration), education (our participation in the Bridges Collaborative), and economic mobility (our developing asset building program).
As we look to the new year, we intend to make bold moves in these areas. We hope to share more about these initiatives as they are implemented and expanded in 2022. As you can imagine, taking on new initiatives requires that we expand our capacity. As you'll see in this newsletter, we are hiring for several key leadership positions. I hope you will consider and share these opportunities with your networks.
In the coming year, we also seek to further existing partnerships and create new partnerships. Cross-disciplinary work requires partnership and community and we are thankful for your continued engagement and support of our mission.
As you consider your end of the year giving options, I hope you will consider BRHP. With your financial contributions over the last year, we were able to provide record levels of support in both school supplies for our annual Back to School Supply Drive and summer camp grants to the families we serve. We look forward to carrying this momentum in 2022, increasing the number of children we are able to support with the tools and experiences they need to be successful and enriched.
It's about more than housing, it's about opportunity and a better future.
Adria Crutchfield

A housing mobility meeting of the minds
|
|
On November 4, BRHP participated in the 8th National Conference on Housing Mobility. The virtual one-day conference was hosted by Mobility Works, Poverty & Race Research Action Council, and Council of Large Public Housing Authorities, and brought together close to 200 public housing authorities, researchers, nonprofit leaders, families with vouchers, and other members of the community to learn more about the history, policy and funding opportunities, and the current status of housing mobility programs across the country.
BRHP Executive Director Adria Crutchfield kicked off the conference, welcoming participants and introducing HUD Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman, who provided a warm welcome. The day consisted of panel discussions with distinguished leaders in the housing mobility space, and included topics on the Housing Mobility Demonstration, Advances in Housing Mobility Policy and Funding, Recruiting Landlords in Tight Rental Markets, and Involving Families with Vouchers in Program Design and Operation.
|
|
BRHP's very own Program Training Specialist Renita Dorsey and Client Advisory Board Member Yvonne Redmond participated in the final panel of the day discussing the strategies and impact of involving families with vouchers in the activities and policies of the Baltimore Housing Mobility Program.
The conference offered incredible insights and calls to action to improve and expand housing mobility across the country. Learn more about Mobility Works here.

Talking equity in education
|
|
On November 3, BRHP had the honor of hosting Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Mohammed Choudhury for our third and final BRHP in Conversation event of the year. Just as quality housing is the foundation for wellbeing, a quality educational foundation opens doors to new possibilities and allows for maximizing one’s personal potential. As inaugural members of the Century Foundation's Bridges Collaborative, we support integrated, diverse, and equitable schools, are identifying ways we can work with others in the community to overcome education barriers. We look forward to continuing the conversation on equity in education with our education partners at the Bridges Collaborative National Convening here in Baltimore in May 2022.
Check out a recap of our conversation with Superintendent Choudhury below.

The Baltimore Regional Housing Partnership (BRHP) helps families with low incomes, who have historically been excluded from housing in neighborhoods of their choice, access and transition successfully to safe, healthy, and economically vibrant communities. Since becoming the formal administrator of the Baltimore Housing Mobility Program, which couples Housing Choice Voucher administration with counseling supports, BRHP has helped over 5,000 families with young children improve their quality of life as they search for new homes.
