Application Materials: Part I

Résumés serve as a reflection of your personal brand. These documents are how employers will get a better understanding of your qualifications before an interview. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when working on your résumé.

  1. Résumés should only be one full page in length
  2. Use a professional email address as part of your contact information. Your LSU email is a great choice.
  3. Avoid copying resume templates you find online, as it is often obvious to the reader that the words are not your own.
  4. Describe your positions using the bullet point formula: strong verb + specifics about what you did + outcome/reason.
  5. Experience can include full-time or part-time jobs, internships, volunteer positions, campus leadership positions, and others.
  6. Tailor your résumé for each job for which you apply by identifying the core competencies of the job for which you are applying and ensuring your résumé reflects those competencies.
