Networking Basics

Networking is a strategic tool for building connections, exploring career paths, and opening doors to opportunities.

One of the most essential tools in your networking toolkit is an elevator pitch. Think of it as your personal advertisement: a 30–60 second introduction that tells someone who you are, what you do, and why it matters. Your elevator pitch opens the door for meaningful professional conversation.

A strong elevator pitch should include:

  • Your name, major, and graduation date
  • What you're currently doing (an internship, job, volunteer work, leadership role, or project)
  • Your career interests, goals, or aspirations
  • An opening for connection

Networking can feel intimidating, but with the right preparation, it is an opportunity to build meaningful connections and make a lasting impression.
