LSU Alum Travels to Kenya and Donates 465 Mobility Devices

Michael Panther is from the war-torn young nation of South Sudan, Africa. Illness and war experiences left him in a wheelchair. In most parts of Africa, people with disabilities are usually excluded from schools.

On September 8-19 this year, Living With Hope took a team of physical therapists, mechanics and support personnel to Kenya to help distribute wheelchairs through Michael's foundation, Living with Hope.

LSU Graduate’s Finance Career Takes Him Around the World

LSU graduate Marios S. Kalochoritis’ 20-year finance career has taken him around the world.

“I live in Cyprus and travel across our three offices, as well as visiting clients in other parts of the world,” Kalochoritis said. “I founded the company Loggerhead Partners. It has offices in Dubai; Cyprus; and Zurich, Switzerland. It is a multi-family office with a specialization in promoting the United Arab Emirates, or UAE, zero tax jurisdiction. The UAE has zero corporate and zero personal taxes. The government has a number of fees that companies and individuals pay, but absolutely no tax.”

Kalochoritis is originally from Cyprus, a small island in the eastern part of the Mediterranean. He attended LSU from 1993 to 1997.

Traffic Records User Conference Held

The  Traffic Records User Conference  was a one-day conference held Tuesday, July 30, at the LSU Business Education Complex. Conference presentations focused on law enforcement and other traffic records, data users and stakeholders.

The conference hosted about 130 professionals from across the state. These professionals consisted of EMS professionals, law enforcement officers, and government officials from public health, highway safety and the courts. Most importantly, all the major levels of government/administration in Louisiana were represented, including federal, state, parish and local authorities, as well as organizations from the private sector.

Econometrics Emeritus Professor Recognized for Contribution to “Principles of Econometrics”

R. Carter Hill, PhD, Emeritus Professor of Econometrics in the department of economics, was recognized for co-authoring Principles of Econometrics by the LSU Office of Innovation and Technology. According to the publisher’s website, “Principles of Econometrics, Fifth Edition, is an introductory book for undergraduate students in economics and finance, as well as first-year graduate students in a variety of fields that include economics, finance, accounting, marketing, public policy, sociology, law and political science."

LSU to Offer Certified Credit Analyst Program

he Department of Finance in LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business in partnership with the Louisiana Bankers Association is responding to the needs of industry with the LBA/Ourso Credit Analyst Education Program which provides education and training for new hires or experienced bankers who are transitioning into commercial lending.

The program uses curriculum provided by the American Bankers Association (ABA) for the ABA Certificate in Business and Commercial Lending, which focuses on financial statement analysis and commercial lending. The course will familiarize lenders with both audited and unaudited statements and will fill any gaps in understanding of credit analysis and underwriting. At the successful completion of the program, attendees receive their ABA Certificate in Business and Commercial Lending.

Baton Rouge's Gotcha bike share program kicked off Thursday, July 18, 2019. Available for immediate use, the system includes 500 electric pedal-assist bikes across 50 mobility hubs throughout the city, Louisiana State University, and Southern University.

Accounting Major Vivian Carter Awarded Prestigious PCAOB Scholarship

Accounting major Vivian Carter of Homer, La., has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, or PCAOB. The PCAOB Scholarship Program awards funds to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accounting degree program at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. The Program is merit-based and awarded to select students who demonstrate interest and aptitude in accounting and auditing while maintaining and demonstrating high ethical standards.

Eighteen Business Tigers Named to SEC Spring Honor Roll

Out of 65 LSU student-athletes, 18 E. J. Ourso College of Business students were named to the 2019 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll Wednesday by Commissioner Greg Sankey. The Spring accolades recognize the LSU sports of baseball, golf, beach volleyball, tennis and track & field.

MBAAA to host all MBA Alumni and Students for Jazz and Cocktails

The LSU Flores Alumni Association will host all LSU MBA alumni and incoming and current MBA students to Jazz and Cocktails Aug. 22, 2019, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to network while enjoying music and refreshments. Jazz and Cocktails conclude the MBA orientation, serving as an excellent opportunity to get to know classmates and alumni.

Alumni and Friends Invited to E. J. Ourso College of Business Annual Tailgate

The E. J. Ourso College of Business will host the 2019 Business Alumni Tailgate Saturday, October 26, 2019 (LSU v Auburn) in the Business Education Complex Courtyard and Rotunda. The tailgate begins four and half hours before kickoff and ends one hour before kickoff..

Business alumni, friends, and guests are invited to enjoy food, drinks and music. The tailgate is free to attend, and one meal ticket and one beverage ticket will be issued to each guest at check-in. A cash bar will be available for all additional drink purchases.
