Varadero Capital LP’s Summer Internship Program Will Transport Students from Baton Rouge to Wall Street

Varadero Capital LP, an alternative asset manager investing in specialized credit, announced the first class of its new summer internship program with LSU. The three chosen students, two sophomores and a junior, will spend eight weeks at the company’s headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, learning and applying investment principles, and preparing for full-time roles in the financial sector.

Flores MBA extends deadline for Fall Executive and Professional MBA Programs

The Flores MBA Program will accept applications for the Professional and Executive MBA tracks until June 28, 2019. Both are a 42-credit hour curriculum geared toward professionals who are seeking career advancement opportunities, and who require advanced business knowledge and skills to make themselves more competitive in their marketplace.

Jeseo wins Daryl McKee Doctoral Student Award

Vincent Jeseo, a second-year doctoral student at the LSU Department of Marketing, won the 2019 Daryl McKee Doctoral Student Award. He graduated from the University of Tampa in 2011 with a B.S. in Sport Management and then earned his M.S. in Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies from the University of South Florida in 2013. Jeseo helps to mentor students in LSU's Professional Sales Institute as they prepare for sales competitions.

Inaugural One-Year MBA class begins

The E. J. Ourso College of Business welcomed the first ever one-year MBA class.

The one-year MBA format is designed to complete the MBA degree in only 11 months. This program is offered exclusively for those who have  earned an undergraduate degree in business from an accredited institution.  It delivers a fast-track, cross-functional MBA experience to help launch and accelerate your career.

E. J. Ourso College of Business Welcomed new Analytics class

Orientation for the new MSA class was held on May 30. The Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) at LSU is an exciting degree offered by the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems (SDEIS). It prepares students to use data-driven methods to contribute to organizational effectiveness and guide decisions.

The curriculum emphasizes the use of business analytics, business intelligence, and information technology to solve problems, reduce costs, increase revenues, streamline processes, and improve decision-making. Students learn specialized skills and knowledge drawn from the fields of computer science, statistics, operations research, and quality management to achieve results through a mixture of classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, and team-based projects.

Mike the Tiger Mascot Reveals Secret Identity

Graduates, faculty, and visitors at the 2019 Spring Diploma Ceremony for the E. J. Ourso College of Business were delighted to discover the identity of one of our beloved Mike the Tiger mascots. Gabriel Elias Muniz (Finance, 2019) of Marietta, Georgia wore portions of the mascot suit to graduation to celebrate his time as a student and as the “baddest cat in the land.”

Clay Moffitt  named LSU Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes "Students of the Month" for May

Clay Moffitt was nominated by Associate Director Kirstin DeFusco: “Clay has demonstrated a strong dedication to excelling in the classroom and as a team leader. As a transfer student, he was behind on his major classes and had to play catch-up. He did not take the easy road and, instead, chose a very challenging major. He has successfully navigated the rigorous coursework while competing on a nationally-ranked team. A May 2019 graduate, Clay demonstrates and educates his younger teammates on what it takes to be a student-athlete at this level.” Moffitt is from Baton Rouge, LA. He majored in finance and graduated this spring.

LSU Economics  Major,  Sean Krieg , was named a Summer 2019 Research Grant Recipient

LSU economics  major, Sean Krieg, received one of 14 summer Undergraduate Research Project Grants. Krieg’s research is entitled Louisiana’s Purchasing: The Impact of a Carbon Tax and Dividend Policy on Louisiana’s Consumption Spending. The objective of the research is to contribute to our understanding of how carbon pricing coupled with a corresponding public dividend would impact Louisiana's consumer spending, one of the most significant driving forces of our economy. 

MBA Student, LSU Long Snapper Again named SEC Football Leadership Chair

For the second-straight year, Flores MBA student and LSU long snapper  Blake Ferguson  will serve as the chair of the Southeastern Conference Football Leadership Council, the league office announced Thursday.

Ferguson, who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration after graduating in the spring of 2018 with a degree in marketing, recently finished his first term as the chair of the Football Leadership Council.

Accounting Major Recognized as one of 2019 Leadership LSU class

Congratulations to Andrew Chenevert for being recognized as one of 28 students in the 2019 Leadership LSU class, an annual spring program which is coordinated by LSU Campus Life on behalf of the LSU Office of the Dean of Students.

Now in its 30th year as an LSU tradition, the program provides juniors, seniors and graduate students with the opportunity to develop and apply their leadership at high levels while in their final semesters at LSU. Participants chosen for Leadership LSU 2019 exhibit the capacity to learn and impact others positively through their leadership experiences. Active participation in Leadership LSU challenges students to sharpen leadership skills and abilities, regardless of their career choices and plans following graduation.

F raud & Forensic Accounting Conference - July 17-18

The Fraud & Forensic Accounting Conference is an annual event hosted by the LSU Department of Accounting and features speakers from around the country. Topics discussed include fraud across various industries, such as energy and healthcare; red flags in investment fraud; what auditors look for in investigating fraud; and using technology to catch fraud. The conference is designed especially for certified public accountants, certified fraud examiners, certified internal auditors, forensic accountants, governmental accountants, attorneys, and other accounting and auditing professional or educators.

Traffic Records User Conference

The Traffic Records User Conference is a one-day conference hosted by the LSU Highway Safety Research Group ( Conference presentations are geared towards law enforcement, and other traffic records data users and stakeholders. Many sessions   will focus on data use and visualizations to offer relatable examples of data-driven decision making for safety improvements. Registration is open.

Certified Credit Analyst Education Program

The Department of Finance in LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business in partnership with the Louisiana Bankers Association is responding to the needs of industry with the LBA/Ourso Credit Analyst Education Program which provides education and training for new hires or experienced bankers who are transitioning into commercial lending.

The program uses curriculum provided by the American Bankers Association for the ABA Certificate in Business and Commercial Lending which focuses on financial statement analysis and commercial lending. The course will familiarize lenders with both audited and unaudited statements and will fill any gaps in understanding of credit analysis and underwriting. At the successful completion of the program, attendees receive their ABA Certificate in Business and Commercial Lending.
