A unique fourth-year elective course, Health Policy and Public Health, offers medical students the opportunity to practice advocating for public health policy they believe will better the lives of their patients before they reach the clinic.
Based on data that span the past 120 years, Georgetown University Medical Center scientists, led by Dr. Colin Carlson, have found that mosquitoes responsible for transmitting malaria in Africa are spreading deeper into southern Africa and to higher elevations than previously recorded.
In recognition of American Heart Month, MedStar Health released the results of its national survey shedding light on the top health concerns of Americans and their heart-related health habits.

Griffith Appointed Chair for Global Action on Men's Health
Dr. Derek M. Griffith
Derek Griffith, PhD, founder and director of the Georgetown Center for Men’s Health Equity and professor of health management and policy at the School of Health, has been appointed as Chair for Global Action on Men’s Health (GAMH). GAMH is a collaborative project that brings together men’s health organizations, and others which share their objectives, in a new global network. Griffith has served on GAMH's Board since November 2020 and as Vice Chair since March 2022.
Ryung Suh, MD, MPH, MBA, MPP, associate professor of health management and policy in the School of Health, has been named President-Elect of American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) Board of Regents for a two-year term beginning in March.

Keeping our Georgetown campus safe from active shooter/active aggressor incidents is a top priority. Members from the Georgetown University Police Department, the campus Threat Assessment Team and the Office of Emergency Management have assembled resources on how to report a threatening person or a person of concern, how to identify resources with emergency information to help you make decisions about your safety, and information on how to stay safe during an active aggressor incident. 

In addition, regularly scheduled active shooter training sessions are offered via Zoom. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the information on this site. Additionally, “Bleeding Control Kits” have been placed with every publicly-accessible AED on our campus. “Stop the Bleed” training is available by contacting emergencymanagement@georgetown.edu.
Georgetown University is committed to creating a performance management program that supports staff success, promotes professional development, and fosters ongoing communication between employees and their managers. The Annual Performance Review process for the period spanning March 1, 2022 - February 28, 2023 begins February 21. The Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) Translational Biomedical Science TL1 Program is offering five Responsible Conduct of Research sessions via Zoom. The series will provide face-to-face training for predoctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and early career investigators in the responsible conduct of research to promote ethical, rigorous and reproducible science.

The GUMC Faculty Group Coaching Pilot Program is designed to support faculty wellness and enhance career satisfaction and engagement. The spring 2023 program is accepting applications for three pilot groups of 8-10 participants each and it will consist of six 90-minute Zoom sessions every other week March 27 - June 5. The Second Annual Georgetown Center for Healthy Aging Symposium, “Advancing Knowledge About Aging to Improve Health and Health Care,” will take place July 12. The symposium will include posters, oral presentations and panel discussions on special topics such as new research collaborations, career development, community outreach and grant proposal development. In honor of Lent, Sr. Celeste Mokrzycki, SSJ, chaplain for the School of Health and School of Nursing, will lead a weekly virtual communal Ignatian Examen, a simple yet powerful prayer exercise rooted in Ignatian spirituality, starting February 27. This contemplative prayer can be used by all faith traditions.
