Community Center Outdoor Pool Closed Until Further Notice

Due to glass breakage in the Outdoor Pool, we will need to drain, clean and refill the pool.  We are working around the clock to ensure the turnaround is as short as possible.

The source of the glass was a child full face mask, which dropped face down on the deck and shattered.  Unfortunately the glass could not be contained.  To ensure full safety to our patrons, draining the pool is a necessary action to be taken.  We will keep everyone updated as to when the outdoor pool will reopen.

A friendly note about Swim Masks...

As popularity of Children’s masks increase, please keep a few things in mind:

  • Please ensure the lens is of a plastic or acrylic type.  Glass of any type, including tempered is not safe in a pool environment.  Please see the picture of the mask that broke and how the glass shattered.  This happened as a simple result of the mask falling face down onto the concrete deck.

  • Masks are less safe for untrained users, especially that nose enclosure is integrated as part of the mask.  This can result in choking on water to an untrained user.

  • For many reasons, goggle use, especially for children is much more preferred by aquatic professionals as opposed to full face masks.

If you have any questions about aquatic eyewear, please feel free to ask any of our aquatic staff.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as it relates to this unusual situation.  We will work as quickly as possible to resolve it and have the outdoor pool back in use.
