Our Beach Shabbat was truly wonderful!
Click here to watch a 3-minute video recap and to see a photo slide show.
We had a perfect evening to come together in a most beautiful location on the beach at Tod's Point. It was a special night of meaningful transitions and celebration.
- Cantor Jill Abramson was thanked for her 3 years of Shir Ami Spiritual Leadership and led a joyful baby naming of Indigo Garcin, Peggy and Jerry Sturman's granddaughter!
- Outgoing officers Co-President Susan Nisinzweig and Treasurer Joel Collamer were thanked!
- Rabbi David E. Levy was installed as our new clergy!
- Secretary Abby Ross and Treasurer Dahni Nisinzweig represented the new Executive team and were installed by Rabbi Levy. Co-Presidents Marie Orsini Rosen and Jackie Marschall were not able to be there with us, but were definitely there in spirit!
- Gifts were given and songs were sung by the approximately 80 members and guests!
If you would like to see the recording of the full service, let us know..

Thank You from Outgoing Co-President Susan Nisinzweig
At the very beautiful beach service we had this Friday evening, I was released of my responsibilities as Co-President and I read the passage to make it official! I had written something I wanted to say but I didn't get a chance and it would have been hard for everyone to hear, so I'm sharing it here instead.
It's really been such an honor to be co-president for the past 3 years for Shir ami. I've had 2 great co-presidents to work with (Jenny Lake for the first 2 years, and Marie Orsini Rosen for my 3rd year), and I've had so many other committed lay leaders to work with for which I am so grateful! I think we all can feel very proud of the congregation we have created together as we have grown and evolved through several transitions. I know that our next chapter with our new, inspiring clergy - Rabbi David Levy, and our new, motivated executive team led by Marie Orsini Rosen and Jackie Marschall as co-presidents, Abby Ross as Secretary, and Dahni Nisinzweig as Treasurer, will be great! It is all of us working together and continuing to care about each other and the congregation as a whole that makes us such a wonderful congregation to be part of. Thank you all for enriching my life!

Incoming Co-President Jackie Marschall's Remarks for Her Installation
I’m sorry I couldn’t be with you at the beach this past weekend. The beach service is one of my favorite services.
I am looking forward to being a co-president with Marie this year and would like to express my sincere thanks to Susan for working so hard to organize my transition into my new role.
I know there are many past presidents among our congregants and I hope to preform my duties as well as they have in the past.
I am very excited to work with Rabbi Levy, Marie Orsini Rosen, and all of you as we begin this new chapter in our Congregational life.
I hope you all enjoyed the evening and I will see you soon.

Ten Minutes of Torah
Commentary on Parashat Sh'lach L'cha, Numbers 13:1−15:41
Transforming Trauma
By Beth Ellen Young
I was recently introduced to the idea of "Post-Traumatic Growth," (PTG). Originally explored in the mid-1990s, PTG sought to understand "positive outcomes reported by persons who have experienced traumatic events." This theory can help us understand the difference in the reports of the scouts in this week's Torah portion, Sh'lach L'cha, and God's response to the reports.
Note: The picture is a recently taken photo of our very own beautiful Torah

How We Can Help The Crisis in Ukraine
We are all horrified at what is happening in Ukraine to all the people, and particularly to the Jewish population, some of whom have gone through this type of horror before.
Should you wish to send assistance to the Jews of Ukraine – here are some suggestions:
|
|
|
Jewish Federations of North America are helping people make Aliyah to Israel, and supporting temporary housing, satellite phones, assisting internally displaced people, and providing critical welfare services. To contribute to Jewish Federations, go to UJF of Greater Stamford or UJA of Greenwich. This agency has been helping in Ukraine for decades, formerly known as United Jewish Appeal. The donation you make is credited to your local federation, but the entire donation goes to the central UJFNA and is sent to Ukraine to their local affiliates (JDC, JAFI, etc.) who have organizations on the ground.
The Joint Distribution Committee is on the ground in Ukraine delivering urgent lifesaving care to Jewish seniors and families: food packages, transport, accommodations for those fleeing, medicine, etc. Go to Donate.JDC.org to contribute.
Jewish Agency for Israel - North America - JAFINA is assisting Jews looking to make Aliyah, and supporting the local Jewish Ukrainian community. This agency is focused on helping Israel, but is on the ground in Ukraine, mainly assisting Jews who would like to go to Israel.
World Central Kitchen uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. They are providing food to people in Ukraine and encouraging people to make donations directly to them.
